• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hey again yall

I've been obsessing on something and wanted some impartial feedback.

It's one of those fears like I invalidated my baptism/salvation.

One time in church I paraphrased this quote in church:

No I didn't! All that's dead are your
stupid laws and rules! You've forgotten
what being a Catholic is all about.
This... book. You see, these are just
stories. Stories that are meant to
help people in the right direction.
Love your neighbor. Be a good person.
That's it! And when you start turning
the stories into literal translations
of hierarchies and power, well... Well,
you end up with this. People are losing
faith because they don't see how what
you've turned the religion into applies
to them! They've lost touch with any
idea of any kind of religion, and when
they have no mythology to try and live
their lives by, well, they just start
spewing a bunch of crap out of their mouths!

I don't think I said mythology and such.

I presumed the quote was a stand against the catholic church, one I support.

But I didn't think that this quote could affect my following through Christ.

I am afraid that because I either broke the advice I gave in church or because of my literal interpretation of this quote:

I have invalidated my own baptism because I didn't take it to literally.

please help.

Ok I've been thinking,

This paraphrased quote doesn't explain ALL OF MY BELIEFS, just a part of them!

If the quote completely summed up my beliefs, I would have a few conflicts, but I think I used this quote because it explained a PART of my entire belief structure.

Does that make sense to anyone?

startrekfan,
If you battle OCD, it sounds like this is just an OCD issue for you. However, many people do get re-baptized for all kind of reasons. It is a possibility, but I almost hate to say that cause I do think for some people who battle OCD they could get in a cycle of being re baptized over and over if that was an OCD sticking point for them and it sounds like it may be for you the way you are obsessing over exactly what you did or didn't say. That smacks of OCD. I know from my own personal obsessing about things. Only you can decide if the Lord is leading you to a re-baptism in which case it could be a simple, beautiful thing. Have you been baptized as an adult, not just a baby? On the other hand, again, if this is just an OCD issue for you, best not to give into it IMO. I think it is kind of a trap to think we somehow "invalidated" our baptism anyway. I think as Christians if we feel we have sinned we simply confess it and turn back to Christ.
