Yep, he's a Brit. As for sounding the same, I guess that's your opinion. The Nashville "machine" I am referring to is the powers that be in the Christian music industry who seem to feel the need to recycle great new bands into secular-sound-alikes. Just let the bands be themselves! Stop giving them makeovers, and changing their sound to make them more "marketable." Their unique sound is what got them a following in the first place!

plenty of people would probably suggest that delirious doesn't really have a unique sound, but instead pulls heavily from bands like u2, making them no less a "secular-sound-alike" than any nashville "machine" band. (unless you wanted to call u2 Christian, in which case delirious could be a Christian-sound-alike)

for a praise & worship focused band Delirious? has a rather unique sound ...for a rock band...well it's just a good sound whether it's a copy of someone else or not. I'll give them credit for that.

yes, because last time i went to see coldplay perform live they were singing songs such as shine jesus shine rather than the scientist.....

anyways, i think Yfriday are pretty good, i went to see thebandwithnoname (a christian hip hop group) and they were there. i want to get some of their cd's to play to our christian union they have a good sound and their songs are meaningful without being too in your face. as much as i love dc talk, they are scarily OTT sometimes, my atheist friend was singing along to Yfriday and thebandwithnoname but if was dc talk at the gig i think she may have had a heart attack.

Well, if that's the case, I'd have to say that the Scientist is a MUCH better song.....

Who EVER said "praise and worship focused" bands had to sound the same?
Why should they?
haha they shouldn't, but they do.

Quite right. Since 1995, every worship band has sounded like delirious...

:p

I really enjoy the music of some of the British bands. Matt Redman, Delirious, Tim Hughes, among others. Thier music has such an honesty. It also does not seem as affected by the "Nashville machine" as much of the American music running around these days.

Yeah, I think Matt Redman is probably the best songwriter around right now - I suspect that 100 years from now he'll be rated up there with the likes of Charles Wesley. delirious? I prefered when they were more explicitly praise and worship - a lot of the Cutting Edge stuff I really rate, but I sort of lost interest around Mezzamorphis, and what I've heard of their more recent stuff doesn't quite grab me (although the tracks I've heard from the World Service album might get me buying that some time).

Tim Hughes writes some wonderful songs, but I actually don't rate the album of his that I've got (When Silence Falls) - the arrangements are a bit lacking. He's good on the Soul Survivor live albums, though.

Personal favourite Brit artists at the moment are Martyn Joseph and Paul Field, neither of whom really do much praise and worship (although they're definitely CCM). I also like Cathy Burton's first album (Speed your love), and Vicky Beeching's songs are really good - I hope she releases more than the 7-track mini-album that's available and the odd track that turns up on compilation albums.

(All IMO, natch.)

David.

Except for Glenn Kaiser, Spoken, Disciple -- of course - they all play more than just "worship" music, but their music is all worship oriented

I agree and wish music like that could/would get more credit for the p&w songs that they write and put out, but I guess unless it's an acoustic set cd who's title mentions something about worship then the average [and above average] Christian band doesn't not get the credit they ought to get.
Then again I do believe Glenn Kaiser, Spoken, and Disciple are not British so maybe I ought to make an issue about music styles else where. Not that I haven't before... but that's ok. a little off track is good for everybody once & a while.
