  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I heard an argument about bringing back
drafting since Universities were harrassing military recruiters
from recruiting.

Would it stop problems with people taking the Country for granted?
Or is it wrong? I'm not sure about it....

Get rid of abortion and you won't need to bring back the draft or the economy. We're killing soldiers and future taxpayers before they're even born.

I heard that Italy has major problems with this - that was a few yrs back tho.
That's a concept I hadn't thought of tho. I'm sure not having any kids
doesn't help either

I think it's time the pro-life lobby incorporated this into their platform. It's such a common sense thing, and yet it's never occurred to anybody. Abortion is affecting other major areas of life in this country and certainly affecting other people's pocketbooks. Now alot of people like abortion because they don't want to pay taxes to enable the government to take care of unwanted children.

The only people that would complain about it is whiney, epicene liberals.

i beg to disagree! some of us whiny libertarian conservatives would complain as well!

TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT ALREADY! no thanks on the draft!:preach:

the draft is a bad idea
we have the ideal, an all volunteer armed forces is an ideal that many peoples have strived for over the ages.
Now everybody serving knows that the other guy is there because he made a rational choice to be there, some poeple might regret it, but there is a lot more trust this way then with a draft.
Also I do not think the American people would go for it, look at how it was in the 1970's and that was when most people thought the draft was a good idea, most people do not think like that now, if they did there would be a draft because they would just elect people who agree with them

I'm old enough to remember the draft well - I remember how nervous my male friends were each year waiting to see if their number came up

personally I prefer an all volunteer military - but that's just me

one thing of interest - whenever I've heard politicians talk about the draft being reinstated it's been by Democrat politicians - yet when I hear the general population talk about it they all think it's the Republicans who want to bring it back - again, so much for accurate reporting

If the recent state of our military is an indication of future enlistment, we might well find ourselves in a situation where we have no choice. Given the left's view of the need for little to no military strength, they could be the ones to bring that need about. How's that for irony?

Community service is something I would like to see made available to all those finishing high school. Helping others and seeing how little others have might help a great deal of our youth gain some perspective and help them grow up and figure out what they want for their future.

I wouldn't support it. But maybe it's because I'm at that age. Then again, I am a university student at a fairly liberal college. Otherwise, as I've said before, I only live here. I don't care about national pride and all that.

The Military neither needs or wants a draft. We do need a larger Army if we want to continue fighting wars all over the world, but we don't need a draft to be larger. All we need is congressional authorization which is highly unlikely to be given.

well obama's desired paramilitary pseudo-army should take care of most defense needs...

but again, bambi's supporters would be the last ones to want to do three months of basic training in service for the country, so I am wondering how all these epicene, Michael Moore loving types will handle a draft... they would burn their draft cards and it would be like Vietnam all over again.
