  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Our church is planning on taking the elementary aged kids to see this movie. I'm up in the air as to whether I should let DS go. I don't have anything against the movie. I just don't know if DS can handle all the monsters and stuff. He'll be 7 in April, but he's very sensitive. I can't go with him because I have 2 younger children and DH will be out of town. I would go see it and decide, but it only comes out 2 days before they're going and DH will already be gone. Does anyone happen to know how intense it is? I know in the book the little girl dies, but the previews don't make it seem like the movie goes that direction. I know that would really upset him. I don't know if anyone could really have any helpful input since it's not out yet, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

I cried as a child when I read the death in the book...and I hear the movie is just as emotional. I'm not sure how intense the death scene is, but I think I'd only want my kids to see it if I was going to be there with them.

I think we'll definitely see it...it's a great story, one of my favorites as a child...but, yeah, I want to be there to answer questions that I know will come up.

I really love this book. i think it's an important book. I'm not a parent but I do teach elementary school and I think this is a very intense book. If I was a parent , I would not let my elementary school aged child read this book or see this movie- I think it's more appropriate for middle schoolers. Seeing the previews, this movie is definitely targeted towards younger children but like I said before the subject matter is intense and, for some children, a hard dose of reality. I think a child has to be "ready" in some way to read this book. Just my 2 cents.

I'm sorry. I was trying to address the OP's concerns for her little boy, that's all.
I agree...I was just trying to answer her concerns as well. I didn't think I needed to spoilerize my advice to her since the OP stated herself what happens.

Sorry. :sorry: I guess I assumed that Bridge to Terabithia is standard middle school reading...kind of like Tom Sawyer or (more recently) Harry Potter. I figured that the ending wouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Again, sorry.
