Bridge collapse in Miami

A pedestrian bridge has collapsed in Miami, with fatalities and at least 7 cars crushed.

Lord, I pray for your mercy, grace and comfort in this tragedy.

Father, this reminds me of Luke 13:4-5. Tragedy can happen unexpectedly at any time. It doesn't matter what precautions could have been taken, people are now dead. Father, I pray for the healing of those that may only be injured. I pray for the comforting of those that are bereaved. I pray that You would not come off as uncaring or harsh, but would enlighten people on the frailty of life, and the need to be prepared to enter eternity. I pray that this will not be lost in the need to inspect or build better bridges and such. I pray people may see the "bigger picture." Amen.

im a structural engineer. just one look at the size, layout and span of the slab bridge it will collapse. this was an error in design.

Haven't seen the actual bridge yet, was it precast concrete or poured slabs?

Hi folks! My area, again
The bridge was a brand new pedestrian bridge to give safe passage across the very busy 8 lane 8th street! ) This was for FIU (Florida International Uni students). God was merciful in the scheduling though because they are on spring break, or we would have a bigger tragedy.

The bridge was due to be finished this spring. Longest span pedestrian bridge of this new type of construction, they had just placed the final piece on Saturday. Other bridges built but not this long, company has good record and has many structures in the South Florida area. They was a disgruntled ? worker who I think filed suit last week concerning this bridge.

There have been at least 10 living victims taken to a very nearby Kendall Medical Trauma Center, 8 are stable in their conditions (whatever they are) and 2 are extremely critical. There appears to be 8-10 cars smashed and several dead.

Still and active SAR (search and rescue) using all means available, sonar, fiber optics and sounders, SAR dogs, helicopter imaging etc.

PRAY for the area.

We are in South Florida and it's only been a month since the Parkland HS murders, and today several schools were on lock down due to someone seeing a man with a gun...

So many are affected, of course those directly involved terribly. Grand opening was Saturday. So many traumatize. One lady from CA said it sounded like an earthquake.

It's been 4 hours and they are about to " lift" the bridge, having secured the equipment necessary, difficult in rush hour traffic no less. The chance of further collapse has hindered rescuers. However, the cars are supposedly pretty flattened by the concrete fall. They are trying to do recovery on the east side of the bridge collapse even still. Miami-Dade fire rescue are some of the best in the world, and specialized in many areas, also deploy around the world for all sorts of disaster relief.

The area had just finished a big celebration (of which my Dentist is a founder/coordinator?) of Calle Ocho! Thousands of people converge on SE Fl for this event. While this was specifically for the students, the traffic underneath could have easily been twice the number of vehicles now suspected smashed.

Pray also for those who had just passed under and those who were about to...they are thankful but will have some form of survivor guilt.

May I also add request for prayer for the families involved in the Navy Pilots training who crashed and died today (in the Keys). There is a Naval Base in Key West.

The lawsuit was by a former contractor who was injured in a previous collapse.
The bridge is a collaboration by 2 well respected companies. One may have been involved in the marvelous Skyway bridge in Tampa?

No pings ...no sounds of anyone still screaming for help. Early screams could not be heard due to all the car alarms/horns blaring from being crashed.

Such a tragedy. LORD give them strength.
