I didn't feed baby food. When they were old enough to sit at the table with us for meals(in a highchair) I would hand them some baby friendly foods(regular food prepared for their fingers and lack of teeth) and let them at it. My middle daughter wasn't very interested and didn't eat solid food for nutrition(meaning, she nibbled and sampled but didn't really make a meal out of it) until she was 18 months old. My son LOVED food and at 6 months he was screaming in his highchair for more food...but still happily nursing a lot. So, my last two kids didn't have a drop of baby cereal or jarred baby foods. I'm no help, lol.

Echoing JGonz... Milk first, solids last.

We didn't start solids until well around 9 months, when someone was interested and able to feed himself. We do use jarred foods, but that's more for convenience when he has teething issues, as he refuses to eat if his teeth hurt.

We also use that (generally fruit) if we're out and about and haven't cookies or crackers on hand.

We're still nursing.

when they would begin solids they only nursed for nap and bed time no other reason to need to they would eat enough to actually fill themselves instead of just play with the food.. which made things easier when they got into the routine of only nursing for nap and bed .. considering i ran a day care and couldnt stop at any given time to nurse.. they were always on a schedule to fit with my day care.

well my first two weren't breastfed by the time they started solids but...I would give them a bottle first and then offer homemade baby food. Around 7 months or so is when they really started to like the baby food (though they ate cereal much earlier and loved it). So about 7-8 months is when they would start to make mini-meals out of baby food. I would give a bottle and then offer maybe 1/4-1/2 cup of food and then more milk if they wanted it. Once they were about 10 or 11 months old and had a few teeth the baby food stopped and I would just give them small bits of whatever we were eating. They did great!
