Boys and pierced ears [open]

Some mentioned it in the other thread but now I'm really curious .

Would you allow your son to get his ears pierced if he asked? At what age? Or is this a absolute nope, not gonna happen kind of thing?

nope, not gonna happen kinda thing...not as long as he lives in my house anyways, after he moves out, I'm not his keeper anymore.

I have two sons and both of them pierced their ears and wore earrings. My eldest was a freshman in college, and the youngest get his done when he was in 9th grade, I think.

For us it was a total non-issue. My husband was a little more uncomfortable about it than I was, but agreed that it was not worth making a fuss about it. And, as things turn out, neither son continues to wear earrings.

If I had a son, this would probably fall under the "pick your battles" chapter....

For me personally, it's not that big a deal so if he really wanted an earring, then I'd let him get one.

Bigger things in life to put my foot down about than this, IMHO.

yup that is my feelings about it... and after all we can't really say anything... my husband has an ear pierced. but it will be his desision, and he has to atleast be in high school... may be contingent on grades...

If he wants an ear pierced I'll allow it. Gracie got her ears pierced when she was 10, and used her own money. I don't see how the rule should follow any different for Atticus. Of course it's not as widely fashoinable for guys to have earrings as it was when I was a teenager so he very likely won't be interested in having one any time soon.

So in other words, not no but heck no, not in my house an if'n he ever did it on his own after he's out on his own, he bes not show up round my place wit sumthin like that stickin out of em.

Cause I GARENTEE the next thin he'll walk in wit is a gal wit 50 rings, half a mowhawk an what ain't chopped off is purple, an the boy, he done turned his goat tee purple! I'm tellin you! I got me a brother... we don't talk much bout em, an that's what he done. An I got me a SIL who got a tatto in the small of er back swearin it'd never strech if'n she got prego............... what a numbnut

It is so hard to read your posts. I guess you're saying that your son getting an ear pierced would mean that for some reason that means he'd suddenly be attractive to a girl with a mohawk?

As a woman who was a girl with a mohawk (purple now and then, sometimes blue, usually just my regular color hair) I can assure you that having an earring wasn't the prime factor in choosing my boyfriends.

Now obviously since I mentioned my son in the other thread I have no issue with piercings, especially ears. It's extremely silly to me that we think it okay to poke holes in our daughters but not allow our sons to do the same. My husband is older than me by 15 years and his distaste for earrings in men related to an outdated idea about what they did or didn't mean. When he noticed that almost all of the boys in our area had piercings he decided it wasn't a battle worth fighting and sent him off on a birthday with me to get it done. I don't know how many he has now (he's 20) I think there are 5 holes in one ear and 3 in the other but he hasn't worn more than one earring for awhile... and he's never had a girlfriend with a mohawk.. or who is even fond of alternative music much to my dismay... actually his girlfriend is the daughter of fundamentalist Christian minister ... which is also a bit too much for me most of the time.. but life goes on...

As my kids got older they all joked about other piercings, bellies, eyebrows, tongues.. and I shrugged and said whatever. They never bothered...well, my oldest did get her eyebrow done but her body kept rejecting the post so she just got tired of it quickly.

I figured piercings close, hair grows back, hair dye wears off, clothes aren't permanent so I'm just not having fits over things as long as when I make specific requests about something they follow through, and they do.

Wow... just wow. I'm sure glad our Heavenly Father's acceptance of us into His house isn't contingent on something as trivial as piercings, tattoos and hair dye.

That sounds similar to my FIL. He's since relaxed his attitude. I thnk muchof it was influenced by the church they were involved with at the time and not stemming from a personal conviction of any kind.

For us I can't justif saying no to our son since his dad has two and had them guaged out to 8g for a while. He's since let the close up a little but they are still guaged.

I think the same would apply for our son as our daughters on when they can or can't get them done.

Yes, I'm open to the idea of my sons getting their ear(s) pierced if they wanted, my hub's on the other hand is totally against it until they are 18. Which to me doesn't make a whole lot of sense because he has his pierced...but he's set in his mind on that one.

I don't have a problem with it, but he wouldn't be allowed to do it until he was older, at least 13. I'd have the same standard for girls if I had any. Now if it started negatively affecting his school work or behavior for some reason then it'd be gone.

I'm afraid DH, on the other hand, will be 100% opposed to it so the biggest issue would probably be the two of us coming to an agreement about it.

I personally don't like to see a boy with pierced ears and I hope my son never wants to do that, but who knows, he's only 6 now so hopefully it will be a while before anything like that ever comes up!

I am not crazy about boys with pierced ears, I hope my son would never ask me about getting one (or more!). But if he did, I wouldnt make such a big deal... I would be more concerned about the reasons why he d want to. If the main reason was to fit in a crowd or to attract a girl, or plain vanity... I d probably put my foot down and say no. If it was just experimental, I might say yes. Although I think if I say yes, and he goes and has it done, whats gonna be next?

I think after about 16 years old if he wanted to get his ears pierced I would let him, but not before that.

Sure, if I ever have a son and he asks to and hes willing/old enough to take care of it. It's not like he can't take it out later if he wants to anyway. I like the way earings look on most guys. I keep telling my husband he should get one actually.

If my teen son wanted to, and he was getting good grades and being respectful at home, then I would let him. It's not a big deal to me at all. I am more concerned with raising a well balanced, intelligent, respectful, expressive child... than what he looks like.

I think that when my son is older (like over 16) I would consider him doing things like piercings and odd colored or different looking hair. As long as he can look respectable when we go to church and to his grandma's house.
It's tough one for us because his dad had a pierced ear when he was in college and has three tats. My hubby dosen't like them now and wishes he wouldn't have gotten them. Perhaps our son can learn from us. I guess that's the point of being parents. I'll pick my battles I think. Although when the time comes...... who knows.
