Boycott the Footlocker

You may want to go back a little farther than 1992 for stats on antisocial behavior and drug abuse, like maybe the 60s. My point is this, rap, rock, baggy pants and do rags are not the problem. Boycotting companies that use these things to advertise will do nothing.

Instead of blaming music, etc., you need to look into what motivates people to gravitate towards these things. I feel it is a matter of one's heart, they have an unmet need, and music, etc., will temporarily provide what they need.

If you don't like rap music, fine. Alot of people don't like rap music. But to blame the state of todays society/youth on rap music is simplifying a complex problem to say the least.

Boycotting is simplistic in its approach, and its results minimal at most.

For example, while in college, I took a psycology class. One of the (flawed) studies that we examined stated that Baptists are more likely to be murderers. The evidence? Most southern states are predominately baptist. Southern states have a higher murder rate than other states (I don't know if that is still true, but it was when this study was done). Therefore, baptists are more likely to kill other people. The problem? The study didn't look at other things that could have caused the higher murder rate, such as more poverty for one thing. It was flawed.

So are your arguments.

And for the record, I have never lived in a gated community. I spent most of my life on a reservation that was beyond poor. Some of the children there were actually sponsored children (I think it was WorldVision) because we were so poor there. And now, I live in the city. And I have watched an hour of BET before - but it was the gospel hour.

I agree with Towodi, but also have to ask about those statistics. Crime rates were down in the early 90's not to mention if we had a 300% increase in drug use in one year we would all know about it because that would be so devastating to the country. We did have a rise in drug use-drug use rose 12% from 1992 to 1997. That's an increase of an average of 2.4% (or less) a year not 300% in a year.

Towodi, I remember a similar argument in a text book in college. Southern states are far more likely to use the death penalty and they also have a far higher murder rate therefor capitol punishment leads to homicide. The text book pointed to studies showing cultural differences and the fact areas with low population density tend to have high murder rates. The book pointed out that there are many other things that could also explain the difference.

The only Foot Locker commercial I've seen has the song "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" not a rap song. I've yet to see anybody post what's so offensive about Foot Locker's commercials. If it has violence, cussing and sex then yes it should be boycotted but if that's the case then why hasn't somebody said that? If that isn't the case why boycott?

The thing that keeps jumping out at me is that it seems to be that people have this notion that rap is inherently sinful. Yes, many, most rap artists have horrible messages in their lyrics, and yes the majority of the industry is the same. I guess my point is that it isnt the rap genre that corrupts, but the messages that are being taught.

I bought some shoes at Ladies Footlocker today.

But really...Boycotts rarely work anyway. I know of people who have boycotted Disney, but...Last time I checked, Disney is doin absolutely fine.

There's a new commercial for Footlocker tho. Some football players in a locker room and they send the rookie to go buy like the captain some shoes. The rookie comes back wearing the shoes and I don't remember the rest.

He comes wearing the shoes, the matching hat, and the matching shirt. The football player who gave him the money to buy the shoes walks in and he's really ticked, so the rookie has to run away (good thing he has those new shoes, I guess!). I just saw that one tonight

Yes, your flawed logic in this case would be correct is in fact the Baptist were doing the killing. Nice try though. In the case of African American youth commiting crimes parallel to the insurgance of rap music. Whenever a new trend or style is presented on the newest rap video, the riff-raff follows. Look at what is going on around you.
Do you people now why rappers were baggy pants that they wear down to their knees? It is from the early days of gangta rap. The early gangsta rappers were crack heads. When you do crack you don't want to eat. You don't want to do anything; eat, have sex, think about anything, talk. You just want to do crack. You loose a massive amount of weight and your pants naturally bag.
Go ahead and ask me how I know this. I am not speeking as your average radical person. What I speek of, I have indepth knowledge of and I know the society that comprises the rap community. I saw a good friend of mine get his brains blown out. Not because he ripped anyone off, not because he changed dealers, no, he got his brains blown out because he put out the rumor that on crack dealer was selling a less potent product than another dealer. These are the type of people that companies like Footlocker are hiring to do commercials. Hardcore drug advocating rap artists like "3 six mafia" (by the way, 3 six mafia stands for "666" mafia) these people advocate the use of cocaine and other drugs. These are the people that discovered that they could make a slightly legal income if they did something artististic like "speak" to the music that they ripped off from other legitimate artists.
I sickens me to see on this forum that dupes that really don't know a thing about the drug trade and the connection to the rap community put my efforts down to boycott Footlocker. You really need to get out into the real world and learn a few things.
Like I said before, go ahead and ask me how I know what I know.

I agree on your point to boycott Foot Locker to keep money out of that rap group's hands, even if those efforts may only make a small dent. However, I'm still not convinced about the degree to which you associate rap itself with evil. You say in an earlier post that there would be no Christian rap without the success of "gangsta" rap. It is possible that that is true on a business level, but that still doesn't mean that Christian rap in itself is responsible for any illicit behavior. When gunpowder was invented, its original use was for fireworks, not as a weapon. It's all in how the evil inherent in people corrupt neutral things.

I have listened to the Triple 6 Mafia for many years and I've had all their CDs including the underground ones. Have you looked at ALL of their lyrics? Have you looked up the lyrics to "When God Calls Timeout"? Three 6 Mafia speak about God in there their music too. I really don't see how you have ANY right to call them scumbags. I've never considered them a bad influence on me.

So what do you concider "that bad"? Should a group use a curse word in every line of a song? From the lyrics I read, they only use curse words in 4 out of 5 lines. Shall I post some of thier lyrics or are you just talking off out of you exit hole?

I tried to find the word God in any of 666 mafias lyrics and couldn't find any reference to God. Maybe you could enlighten me.

What do you think 3 six mafia stands for? And to call me God is blasphemy, I think as a Christian you would have known that. Oh, and to say that they are cool because they thank thier Lord Jesus and pump out the kind of filth that they put out, makes them even more of a danger. If they put out filth like the majority of thier other works and then in thanking Jesus openly then so sap may say to another person, "hey they are O.K. cause they thank Jesus. Do you honestly think that Jesus, our lord and savior would want to be honored in the way that they trick you into thinking that they are honoring Him? Get real dude. Ya know Al Capone did alot for kids but look at his track record. Assuring that kids get fresh milk in thier school lunches doesn't make up for the hundreds of people that he killed.
