  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a boxer but I have not had a fight yet. Share your opinions of your favorite fighters or whatever you want related to boxing.

Personally, my favorite fighters are heavyweight Vladimir Klitschko, lightweight Kelly Pavlik, and Muhammed Ali.

Awesome. I've always loved boxing and kind of wish I got into it. Too late now. Have you been training for awhile?

I used to love boxing back in the mid 80s - late 90s. Then it seemed to have died, except for Manny P.

MY fav was Holyfield. I watched every one of his fights as a heavyweight

But Ray Leonard and Hagler, and Hearns had some incredible fights. I really miss it . I can't stand the new kick / wrestle / boxing crap lol

I have been training about a year now. I have to say it's a crazy workout and takes a ton of practice and precision but also costs a lot of money for classes and equipment. I'd say if you are passionate and really want to do it, definitely do it because it's worth it. I'm not sure if I will ever fight but I want to because the sheer amount of nervousness it causes and because I just have a lot going on right now.

Yea, the fighting scene has definitely changed. Boxing definitely has gone way down hill, mostly because of the popularity of UFC and because of rigged fights. Many people don't like UFC (I think that's what you are talking about) but many people do (mostly the younger generation). It actually is a billion dollar business. I respect UFC fighters just as much as boxers. I don't like it as much as boxing, but it takes just as much physical and mental power and toughness.

OH for sure , they are in amazing shape and super tough. But , its just not the same as the big fights back in the day, for me anyway .

Every time I watch Ultimate fighting, its 2 guys on the ground for 5 mins and little to no action lol .

I agree. I'm only 18 and I have only watched live tournaments or films of fights but I know it is not the same. The thing is with UFC, there are so many fights that you can't really hype it up like boxing used to be (unless it's two superstar fighters or something). I personally don't like the ground fighting either but in UFC the knockouts are awesome because of the really thin gloves. It's just so raw. Also, something like a roundhouse kick to the head makes you cringe at the sight of it.

I haven't watched much boxing at all in recent years for reasons already stated.

I'm a martial arts guy and have started watching UFC again pretty recently. It's changed a whole lot since the old days. Lots more standup, which is a good bit of boxing. Some fights I've seen were mostly standup and that means lots of action and some good KOs.

I know a little bit about the ground stuff, but nowhere near as much as the MMA folks do. I don't like that sort of work as much for myself (what can I say...I'm getting older!), but it's *very* useful to have in your training still. I can't deny that.

All that said, I've been wanting to go to a pure boxing gym just for the experience of it. There's one in my part of town I've been itching to try. But time and money is against me! But I'm lucky since one of my head instructors used to be a boxing trainer. So I do get some training in how to move my feet, keep from bouncing...stuff like that. Very good stuff to know for anyone doing any sort of martial training.

Man, so many good boxers to name. Right now, I'm a huge Pacquiao fan and would love to see him get into the ring with Mayweather. I feel those two are at the top of the game right now. I like the Kiltschko's, too, but aside from them fighting each other, neither really has a test out there. It's sad to see the heavyweight division in the position it is right now, because those are such awesome fights!
