  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I am new to your forum. I reside in central Florida.
Mom purchased a yellow bougainvillea for me several years before she passed. In 2004 she started having mini strokes and priorities changed drastically. I lost a lot of plants due to the continued support that mom needed; among them was the bougainvillea.
I have recently purchased a yellow bougainvillea in her memory. I have the plant in a pot; I do not want to put it in the yard. The plant in full sun; other than fertilizing it with cow manure every 2 months what should I do to make it thrive.
Hoping you have a blessed day,
iddawg

How big is the pot, I have few bougainvillea (dark pink), there up to the roof of my house. I just water every other day and put Miracle-Grow Shake and feed every three months. Since it's going to be in the 100* this week, I plan to water everyday. If you have pots you need to water more, since your plants in the pot. But I water the same, because I water my pots and ground at the same time.

Right now it is still in the nursery pot. I have a 50" pot that I will be transplanting the Bougainvillea into. Will have to get potting soil the next time I go to town. Since I live 20 miles one way from town; it will have to wait until I can get there. I'm watering the same as you for now.

I haven't heard of yellow bougainvillea. I live in southwest Florida and we have some magenta pink and cranberry red, a few mulberry purple bougainvillea vines growing in the ground climbing on lattice work. The sharp thorns make it dificult to prune, whoever prunes it tends to get scratched up from the thorns. We usually wear gloves and long-sleeves flannel shirt while trimming the vines. I think my bougainvillea are in part sun part shade. We water them and don't fertilize a lot, they have grown profusely. THe bougainvillea has really taken off and grown. The masses of colorful papery flowers are pretty.

The plant I have was in bloom when I purchased it. It is not now; besides I have no way of taking a picture of it if it was. My camera is now working and have not had time to get a new one.
The plant I have is gold; although they do have a pure yellow.
You will have to do a search for "Yellow Bougainvillea" because this is just my 3rd post and I have to have 50 before I can post a URL.

Don't know aboput Florida and I'm not one for growing in pots. My grandmother had one which was planted in the ground on one side of the garage. It grew to the roof and then all the way across the front of the garage. As far as I know it received little care save for water from the sprinklers.

That's the reason I do not want to put it in the ground; I do not have room for it in the yard. Before Mom had the strokes I had 6 in pots and 3 bonsai. All did extremely well; all I had to do was water and every 6 to 8 weeks fertilize with cow manure. If you are going to put one in a pot do not fertilize more than 6 to 8 weeks. I had mine in pots for years. All did extremely well.

You can prune alot, if you don't have a lot of room.
