I would recommend anything by R.C. Sproul.

He is a very knowledgeable and respected theologian and he puts things in very layman terms.

A great book on systematic theology is Louis Berkhof's "Systematic Theology".

Wayne Grudem has a nice Sys. I've been reading it.

Give me a topic and I'll give you a really awesome specialized book. Like disp. or Calvinism, or pre-trib or something.

I can recommend mine soon. Much sooner than I anticpated. It's coming along. And each chapter is almost four times what it was a few months ago.

I know you mentioned theology and not doctrine, but may I suggest Jaroslav Pelikan's 5 volume series "The History of Christian Doctrine."

Have you read Ignatius' "On The Incarnation"? (or is it Athanasius, I can never remember)

Regarding the Trinity, a good book is "The Forgotten Trinity" by James White

If you want something that makes sense, that is readable, and is not bogged down with devotionals and dogma... try E.W.Kenyon.

Kenyon lived and died before there was a word-faith movement. He died in 1949.
Some of his excellent writings have been adopted by WF folks... but he would not have known what you were talking about if you mentioned Word-Faith to him.

Any of Vernon MeGee's books are good places to start. CBD has a lot of good commetaries at reasonable prices. www.christianbook.com

This is not the place for this debate. There are several other threads that address these things...
But the OP asked for suggestions re: theology books, and I think it is inappropreate to start attacking the suggestions offered.

Granted. However, I'm not looking to debate, only to help my fellow brother in Christ not fall into heretical teachings. That I see is entirely appropriate to this topic of book suggestions for accurate theology which is what I believe Lotar is looking for. Feel free to disagree.

Heresy hunter? That sounds awfully familiar. The apostles were "heresy-hunters" so I'll take that as a compliment.

I don't judge anyone by blanket statements and single quotes, but what their ministry teaches and practices.

Just to get this back on track I agree with SoC. I don't really want recommendations from the world faith movement, or those super out there charasmatic types.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I'm going to go out and look at books today. BTW, I notice that there are a lot of Reformed recommendations, does anyone have any non-Calvinist books to look up as well?
