Hi, I'm mentoring someone who would like to begin discipling and mentoring others as well. I'm looking for a book that he and I could read together that's both practical and visionary. Can anyone recommend any that would be good? Thanks!

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

maybe try posting elsewhere which might have some more experiences with the above.
i can't recommend stuff in terms of discipleship but John C Maxwell is good for leadership/visionary stuff and alot of the principles can be adopted to discipleship.

This may not be what you're looking for, but one of the best books I've read is Bonhoeffer's "Life Together."

Multiply by Francis Chan and Follow Me by David Platt are really good books about discipleship. And they're still fairly new, so pretty modern applications to what they contain.

It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but an essential that I believe every Christian should read who wants to grow is The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It's a very deep read, and excellent.

I second the suggestion for David Platt. However, you should read "Radical" first, then "Follow Me."
"Follow Me" was written to follow "Radical."
"Radical" deals with what true disciples should give up.
"Follow Me" deals with what true disciples should cling to.
