I have been searching just about everywhere for a book that contains prayers for all sorts of occassions like death, sadness, sick, etc. I know in the Catholic Church they have a prayer book if I'm not mistaken and I know you should only pray to him using the "Our father in heaven" prayer I was just wondering if thier was other prayer we could use for when we are sad, etc.

Thank you,
Mag

I think most non-denominational Christians don't really believe in any "set"prayers, save the "our father". You might check some Catholic websites though. Usually I just read lamentations or psalms when Im sad, or pray on my own.

Hi Theophorus

That's good too but for her purposes I think The Lutheran Prayer Book is a little more what she's looking for, a lot of the BCP might not make sense to her, Rite One, Rite Two, and so on.

There's hardly anything that is strictly Lutheran in it, it's pretty generic.

I also have The Orthodox Prayer Book (The Little Red Book) was that's a little too "denominational" specific for her purposes.

There are "oodles" of: Pray The Scriptures prayer books. Check with your Christian books stores in: the prayer section. A classic is: David Wilkerson's, Pocket Promise Book (don't know if that is the "exact" title. Stormie Omartian(don't know if that is the exact spelling) has written some wonderful books on prayer! Also, I have a copy of "A Time To Pray"...365 Classic Prayers to help you through the year. Forward By: David Adam. I hope that helps you! Love-in-Jesus....swansong11...

From The Lutheran Book of Prayer

Prayer for When in Doubt

Father, you are able to
create out of nothing.

I confess my heart is
reduced to nothingness by
doubts, fears, grief, and
despair.

I live in the darkness
of hopelessness.

I confess that the world
has failed to remove my doubts
by its rewards and promises
of material things, by its
worship of science.

Remove the doubts that haunt me
that I may know the joy of salvation
Let me trust Your goodness as Creator
Your faithfullness, Your grace
and Your forgiveness as Lord of my life;
through Jesus Christ, Amen.

You can pray to Him any way you want. I agree that you should look at Psalms, there's models for lots of prayers in there. The Lord's Prayer is a model for how we should pray, we are not limited to those words. For example, you can throw in specific praises with "hallowed be thy name" what matters is you follow the thought pattern. "Your kingdom come" can be supplimented with how you want His kingdom to come and His will be done. Such as praying for personal sanctification. That would be His kingdom coming to my heart, and making it easier for me to do His will as it is done in Heaven. "Give us this day our daily bread" - what are your needs? Transportation? Safety? That can be considered "daily bread."
