I have read that the Jewish bloodline is passed down from mother to child. How then was king David a jewish king of royal blood when his grandmother, Ruth, was a foreigner. This puzzles me.
Thanks

David, appointed and anointed as King by Samuel at God's behest, begins the dynastic line, so there is no issue of inheriting royal blood. Also, I believe you'll find that Ruth is a paternal grandmother; and that the Bible is silent as to who Jesse's wife was. It goes without saying that, if she was Jewish, the matrilineal line is established.
