  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am very devoted to the Blessed Sacrament exposed but unfortunately I can not spend the time there that i use to.

The kids are out of school right now and I have a year old that comes with me to mass so I can not spend the time in the chapel that I use to which makes me sad.

Although I was able to stay for a few minutes this evening after mass which only made me realize even more how much I miss seeing him everyday.

I just do not feel as focused in prayer as I do when I am at adoration.

Michelle, try this as part of your daily prayer routine. Take a mental trip to your church and picture the tabernacle and the real presence. Or even better try to picture every tabernacle you have ever seen. Then just mediate on the presence of our Lord through out the whole world.

When we receive Holy Communion we become Living Tabernacles.

I like to watch people receive Holy Communion and realize that they are Living Tabernacles. It's so profound.

That and when they genuflect in front of the tabernacle. I agree, the reverence is overwhelming and very touching to see. Watching someone receive devoutly and reverently, I don't know but it just moves for some reason.

Does the EO have adoration the way the RCC does?

A few years back the Holy Father suggested that all parishes should have a adoration chapel. I am so fortunate that my parish has one adjacent to the church. I used to spend at least a half-hour to an hour 5 to 6 times a week but now, it’s only when the opportunity arises. I’m definitely feeling the difference in my prayer life.

I do not know how any body can live with out Jesus in the Eucharist and the adoration chapel is the most beautiful place on earth.The feelings that get when there is that the world is outside the doors and I am no longer in the world but in heaven. I can think so clearly and I feel that all of my problems are solved.

Boy I sound like an addict, huh?

Thanks.

I was thinking lately that I needed to do something to help me calm my thoughts down and focus. With 5 kids running around it is not that easy.

I have two icons of the BVM and I was thinking about placing them in a quite place just for prayer.

I will try your suggestion. There used to be a web site that offered a virtual adoration. They did not try to assume that Jesus was present in cyber space but they offered a mental focus with prayers and hymns and a picture of the Blessed Sacrament exposed. It was nice to visit but I can find the site, I lost it.

My dearest Michelle:

No, the Orthodox Christians do not have exposition of the Eucharist like Catholics do.

However they do have a red lamp inside their Temples which indicates that the Eucharist is present. We call our churches "Temples."

Whenever I have a chance, I like to spend time in the church praying. It's quiet with the scent of incense which creates a powerful prayerful environment.

Your sister in Christ,
Elizabth

We have the same red light by the tabernacle.

Have you ever spent time at an adoration chapel making a holy hour? If not try it, you will be so glad you did, worshipping and adoring Jesus in the Eucharist. :bow:

.

Dearest Michelle

The Eastern Catholics and The Eastern Orthodox have the custom of gathering all the icons and arranging them on an east wall of the house that is a special place in the house reserved for prayer. I also have icons in each room to remind myself to pray.

Whenever I can I do spend time in our Church where the Eucharist is reserved. It is a special time.

Your sister in Christ,
Elizabeth

Godhead here in hiding, whom I do adore,
Masked by these bare shadows, shape and nothing more,
See, Lord, at thy service low lies here a heart
Lost, all lost in wonder at the God thou art.

Seeing, touching, tasting are in thee deceived:
How says trusty hearing? that shall be believed;
What God's Son has told me, take for truth I do;
Truth himself speaks truly or there's nothing true.

On the cross thy godhead made no sign to men,
Here thy very manhood steals from human ken:
Both are my confession, both are my belief,
And I pray the prayer of the dying thief.

I am not like Thomas, wounds I cannot see,
But can plainly call thee Lord and God as he;
Let me to a deeper faith daily nearer move,
Daily make me harder hope and dearer love.

O thou our reminder of Christ crucified,
Living Bread, the life of us for whom he died,
Lend this life to me then: feed and feast my mind,
There be thou the sweetness man was meant to find.

Bring the tender tale true of the Pelican;
Bathe me, Jesu Lord, in what thy bosom ran---
Blood whereof a single drop has power to win
All the world forgiveness of its world of sin.

Jesu, whom I look at shrouded here below,
I beseech thee send me what I thirst for so,
Some day to gaze on thee face to face in light
And be blest for ever with thy glory's sight. Amen.

(translation of Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J.)

I went to adoration for the first time today. I know, I know, I don't know why it took me so long :rolleyes: !

I went to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Before I went downstairs to the crypt church (where adoration is) I was wandering around in the upper church, in and out of all the little side chapels. I was struck by how lucky we are as Catholics.

Not only do we have a church home no matter where we move or travel to, we have this incredibly rich history of beautiful art and architecture created in worship of our Lord. Of course, most importantly, we have Jesus Christ physically present in our churches, a gift which cannot be outdone.

I really can't believe how lucky I am.

Although our new church is too big and too simple for my taste, I do like how they setup the reservation chapel for the tabernacle. The reservation chapel is to the side behind the altar with two walls of frosted glass. The two panels of glass that form the corner is clear so you can see the tabernacle from the main church.

Now if we could just start perpetual adoration. :(
Instead of just first Friday of every month.
