Blessed Red Egg

The egg stands for the tomb, with the new life within. They are colored red in remembrance of the Blood of Christ.

St. Mary Magdalene was called before the Emperor to tell him about Christianity. She used an egg as a visual teaching tool. He scoffed, and told her that a man could no more rise from the dead than the egg in her hand could turned red. It promptly turned bright red. It is pictured in her icon most of the time.
