That is awesome. This is not my icon, but it looks beautiful. What are icons made out of? Wood, or metal painted?
Wood. They are technically "written" as they are prayed/painted by the artist. Although, some may disagree with the term "written." That's what some Benedictine Sisters told me, anyway.
That is pretty cool. As wood tends to crack during harsh humidity changes, how do you take care of your icon?
I keep them in my room and they aren't cracked. Some of them have scratches though

Which saints are the scratched ones? Remember, Jesus got scars also, so that makes the icons even more holy.

I think it was originally from a convent in Missouri or Kansas. I'm not sure. I got it when I was in college from a monastery.

Unfortunately, my room is very cluttered and my icons are everywhere. If I ever have energy, I need to organize.
