  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Black Deliveryman Says He Was Blocked and Interrogated by White Driver
Travis Miller Sr., an appliance and furniture deliveryman, had just completed his eighth and last delivery of the day last Monday and was attempting to leave a gated community with a co-worker when a white car blocked his path to the neighborhood's only exit.

37-minute video has been viewed more than half a million times since he first shared it in real time during the confrontation on the afternoon of May 11.

"I'm trying to leave, and I got Super Neighbor over here blocking me in, so I'm going live," Mr. Miller said at the beginning of the video. "This is what I'm dealing with right now."

One would hope these folks would take a break during the pandemic, it is clearly not the case. The audacity. You do not have to tell a random person where you're going.

Well, given how racist this country has become because of Trump, it is obvious that the white driver thought the black delivery man was stealing things.
There was racism in the United States before the current president, he is not the reason for racism.

It is just now more racist because of Trump...right? Or were white people "closet racists" who came out after Trump was elected?

They started coming out more when Obama was president because they felt threatened by the cultural shifts that he represented. Trump is a symptom and a reinforcer of that backlash.

It's the media, not Trump.

Would it be safe to say that the purpose of this thread is to expose the racial injustices and growing level of white nationalism in the United States? Is it possible that the so called "blacklash" is a result of years of being told that you are racist because you disagree with Obama's policies?

Agree. As an aside: this is one of about only two things I've liked about the Trump administration: they've made the people who think like this bold enough to finally act on that thinking, so now people can know who they are. So...thanks President Trump!

...or they think that because President Trump says it's okay they now can do just what they've always wanted to and there's not going to any blow back for acting like this?
tulc(suspects that why all these examples of "good people on both sides" are being so bold these days)

Wouldn't that mean it is Obama's fault the country is more openly racist? I thought he was supposed to be the guy that brings the country back together. You know...the whole "hope" and "change" thing?

You'd have to ask the OP about the purpose of the thread, thought I imagine your assessment is at least in the ballpark.

Is it possible that the so called "blacklash" is a result of years of being told that you are racist because you disagree with Obama's policies?

No. I can't quite fathom how someone would respond to charges of racism with actual racism (or with believing in racist conspiracy theories, or even just being okay with Trump's tactics) unless those original charges had at least some merit in the first place. Calling me a sexist, for example, isn't going to make me hate women. It'll just make me think you're an idiot.

Wouldn't that mean it is Obama's fault the country is more openly racist? I thought he was supposed to be the guy that brings the country back together. You know...the whole "hope" and "change" thing?

No, it wouldn't make it Obama's fault. One could argue that Obama wasn't successful at unifying the country along those lines, but one could counter that by pointing out that, in hindsight, it seems clear that was likely impossible for him to have done so for reasons entirely out of his control.

The purpose of this thread is to show a current event in the news. Consider the first Tea Party rally was held in February 2009, it's safe to say that it wasn't an movement caused by anything Obama did, and that's not even getting into all the racist imagery shared by Republican Party members during the election and during Obama's two terms. Nonetheless, this thread isn't about Obama.

Really? I'd agree that most people wouldn't act racist as a response to racism.

But let's imagine that the accusation of racism goes on for 5 years, you're basically blamed for everything because of your skin color, you're called racist regardless of any actual racism....in fact, people claim you're racist without even knowing it.

You're definitely going to see people push back against that kind of demonizing in several different ways.

Is that what the bad guy in this story claims? That for 5 years he was “blamed for everything because of his skin color” and called a racist over and over?
