  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am supposed to be getting 2 love birds from my aunt. I just switched my budgies into a smaller cylinder cage, i feel really bad and am not too sure whether I should switch them back? They seem okay with it though.

Anyway my question is- The cage the Love Birds will be going into is 2 feet x 1 foot x 2 feet. Is this too small? Or will they be okay?

Any cage should be sized by wingspan. The cage should at LEAST be wide enough, front to back, left to right, to accomodate wingspan for however many birds you have in your cage. I.e., most budgies would require a cage at least 7-8" x 7-8". Two would require about 14-16" x 14-16" (which I would honestly offer to even one bird). Plus, Budgies love to climb, they need loads of perches and tons of toys. The cage should also be big enough to allow free movement among the objects within the cage. The birds should be able to freely flap their wings and should have enough space that should they suffer a fright they wouldn't be harmed by bumping into too many nearby objects. A tall cage isn't necessary, but nice to offer a bird that loves to climb.

A lovebird's wingspan is only a single inch larger than that of a Budgie's (8-9"). Their cage should be at the very *least* 16-18" x 16-18", height isn't really anything to be concerned about. Just make sure they have plenty of room to move around numerous toys and plenty of perches.

Also, a bird should never be in a cage without corners. Without corners they literally have nowhere to hide. That's not fair to a very private animal, and could result in a very messed-up bird emotionally. They need to have a place to push into when they're afraid. Just to throw in, a bird should never be in a hanging cage, either.

Blessings,
