• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'd say either set yourself up with a healthy meal plan (different amounts of fruits, vegetables, dairy, protein, and carbs), or else go see a nutritionist and get their advice. If you've read my other posts, I'm all like "pro nutritionists!!" (they should hire me to get them business, lol :p) but it's true - they help so much with eating disordered behavior. If that isn't an option, then like I said, set yourself up one that you know is healthy and enough for your body. Experiment a little with it - in a healthy way. See if you feel better if you have more fruit/vegetables and protein than carbs. That type of thing.

Hopefully that was of some help. :sorry:

I have been binge eating a lot lately and need to get back to eating healthy again. Any suggestions?
I'm right there with ya! For me, it seems to be triggered when I eat processed carbs (aka junk food). Once it is set off, there's almost no stopping me! I think I've been on almost every diet known to man and that only seems to aggrivate it.

It's frustrating. I know!

Also, some people find chewing gum helps.

I tried this the other day and it did help. Chewing gum was one of the things I had planned to start doing regularly but so far it hasn't stuck ... too much junk food in the house right now, what with the holidays and all!!! lol

Here is some information I found on a friend's online journal;

"chewing gum IS a good way to lose weight. Feeding ourselves when we feel vulnerable occurs because we, as babies, are usually close to our mothers (and therefore security) when we fed - the masticating motion of chewing on gum releases the same endorphins and is far less fattening!"
