didja even break a sweat? just kidding
Yes, I did sweat. I don't appreciate put downs that are disguised as jokes.
20 minutes is a good workout if you don't have much time and have to get somewhere, you want to spend more time to maximize the effect, not trying to put you down.
Awesome job, girlfriend! You could have just said that, then. "Did you even break a sweat?" does not convey the same message as "a longer workout will maximize the effect".
I am able to do 60 minutes on the elliptical at the highest level of resistance. I have not been doing as long of workouts lately because I am busy with school and other things in my life, but I have still managed to drop a dress size and lose some weight even though my workouts have not been taking as long recently.
For the longest time, I've thought about writing a coffee table book that showcases the many different "gym personas" I've witnessed over the years...
Can I still sign up?So most of us have seen the show Biggest Loser, even if it just flipping through the channels. It's a great show that promotes healthy weight loss AND weight maintenance.
We talked about this a long time ago, but it kind of died out and nothing came of it. I want to bring this subject back up and see if anyone is interested.
I believe everyone of us knows there are a lot of us here on CF that need to lose weight. Whether it be 10 pounds or 150 pounds, there are those of us that just need to start taking our health serious and make it a priority in life.
I am proposing a CF Biggest Loser competition! This is going to be to promote lifestyle changes, not just weight loss. I want to start taking my health seriously and would like to join together with others like me who want to take their health seriously as well So, this goes beyond just losing weight. This is about total health.
If Spicy is willing, I would like to make this a team competition! Basicly, we would be the trainers. Our job is to hold our teams accountable, post tips and hits, encourage our team, and be there to help with any questions.
So, Spicy (or if he declines, we can find another trainer) and I would be the trainers. You sign up on this thread if you want to participate. We have a draft where we break people up into teams. Most likely, drawing names at random or simply just cutting the list in half will happen as this is not a popularity contest.
This is my proposal:
1. This is a friendly competition to promote health. There may be blessing and/or other prizes involved for the winning team.
2. There will be 2 team leaders, myself and spicy or another member.
3. If you want to join, sign up on this thread. We will later assign you to a trainer.
4. You will be required to report your weight and progress to a trainer at regular intervals. This is 100% confidential and no one will share your weight with others.
5. We will use this thread or another to post tips, healthy recipes, etc... If you have a healthy snack you found that tastes good, share with the others.
6. Although this is a friendly competition, we need to take health very seriously. Before doing any specific diet changes, you need to talk to a doctor. If you are going to chose a specific fad diet, such as South Beach or Atkins, do NOT do this before you talk to a doctor. Simply eating more fruits/veggies and less starches/fat and adding some exercise to your life is something everyone should do. If at any point you feel something is not right, stop.
7. I would like to promote total health as well. That means finding people/friends for you to talk to about other issues as well. Just a listening ear can help.
I hope this makes sense and I laid everything out there the right way. This is not just for singles. If you are married/engaged/dating or just a moderator assigned to the forum and you want to participate, you are more then welcome.
This thread is primarily to see if anyone is interested.
If you have any suggestions/comments or if you think some changes need to be made to what I have posted, give me the feed back here. Also, if you are in, sign up here so I can see how many people are interested.
Thanks
Coach
Weight lifters often try to get body weight in lbs for their amount of protien. So for example, I would try to get 175 (bad week) grams of protien.
This is sort of the height, and should be roughly 33% of your calories. The people who tell you to go for 50% of your calories are crazy (so trainers at my gym tell me). To be honest, even trying I don't get 33% most days. I do try to get over 20%, which would correspond ot .7 * (body weight in lbs).

Oh wow, I was doing 100grams a day when I first had gastric bypass surgery.Weight lifters often try to get body weight in lbs for their amount of protien. So for example, I would try to get 175 (bad week) grams of protien.

That sounds like way too much protein for me. I'm not a body builder. So by 33 percent or 20 percent are you talking about 33 percent of your body weight which would be about 58 grams?
33% is extreme, and the 20% or 33% is in relation to calories. Remember a lot of things have 5% or something, that you wouldn't even think of. So for someone on a 2000 calorie diet, 20% would be 400 calories of protein. There are 4 calories in a gram of protein, so you would want 100 grams of protein.
