  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think God is most concerned about our needs but will satisfy the wants of a select few. These few are selected because satisfying their wants serves some greater purpose, not just because God is picking and choosing arbitrarily.

Also, people may have their wants satisfied without even realizing what they truly wanted. Or maybe it's just that people don't know how to ask for God to give them what they want because they don't truly know.

I really think it depends. Sometimes what we want isn't what God knows to be best for us, so he won't satisfy every particular "want" we feel. But what's in his plan will be much, much better for us than what is in our plan, so even when we don't get a want met, there's something better in store down the road. God knows what's best for us, and so he will always care for our needs.

I believe God satisfies our "needs", and only rarely our "wants". Our "wants" often conflict with His "wants", and His "wants" are more important than ours. However, we are called to want His "wants". When we learn to do that, then He will satisfy our "wants" as well as our "needs".

God bless

This might be saying what the others have been saying, but God knows you better than you know yourself. Trust me on that. There was a girl once, that I was like "God, please, let me end up with this girl!"

Since God knew the entire picture, he knew that if I had ended up with that girl, either I would have become a hollow shell of a person, or I would have exploded. Needless to say, God knows if your wants are healthy for you, or if they really arent. As you progress in your faith, your wants will begin to become more in tune with Gods way of thinking.

Needless to say, if you want a new car, dont expect God to hit you up with an 07 Tahoe or something. But dont be surprised if God provides you with a ride when you need it.

Hopefully that answered your question

I think God wants to change our wants to things He wants to fulfil.

it depends on what your "wants" are. first of all, He wants us to take care of HIS needs 1st and foremost. once we do that, He takes care of all the rest whatever they may be. the scripture says He daily loads me with benefits. i dont see how much better that can get.

God has a plan for all our lives, and i believe he answers our prayers in harmony with that plan and with what God wants to do in us and through us. When i was little my favorite cartoon was about a cowboy with a beautiful horse and farm. I wanted to be just like that cowboy, so I begged my father to help make that possible. Now im going off to college (not really but lets suppose i am) and my dad says "College?! What are you talking about? When you were 5 you said you wanted to be a cowboy so i spent all of our family's money and bought you a beautiful farm and your dream horse out in the country." Luckily, my dad would never would give me the farm i wanted when i was 5. God is the same. You think you want something because you think you can do something with it in your future. If you can (according to Gods plan for your life), then surely God will provide for it, but if what you prayed for will not be useful for you in Gods eyes, God will not provide for it but will rather provide for your needs, not wants, unless your wants are in harmony with Gods plan for your life.

I'm reminded of a verse in Psalm 37...

Psalm 37:4 says
4 Delight yourself also in the LORD,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

A lot of people leave out the first part of that verse. When we delight ourselves in the Lord, our wants and desires become what God desires for us so they are fullfilled. When the Lord isn't the center of our lives.. our desires aren't so much what God would have for us so naturally they aren't going to be fulfilled.

That's just how I see it. Hope that helps.

Does God satisfy our needs or our wants
?

i Think the answer is Sometimes. Just like any "parent". God teaches us. Most of us in the "west" have little clue what it is to be a servant or what a God really is.

God is not a magic genie, granting wishes. Mankind is made for the pleasure of God not the other way round. God is the creator and is a Good Holy Father. This does not mean He does not let us suffer the consequences of our own actions--He does. God is a God of order and I am not the person for whom He plans to "bend" the rules.
