Joe had every right to move the withdrawals from May to August. That same right could have been used to move the date back to where his commanders and advisors were telling him.
Apparently you don't understand the situation. Let me explain it to you. The former President (Trump) committed the United States to withdraw from Afghanistan in May; that is a legal obligation. President Biden was legally committed to that obligation, made on behalf of the United States by his predecessor.
I'm certain that if he didn't comply then all the "trumpies" would jump up and down, saying that President Biden wasn't following the law by honoring the commitment of the US government.
P.S. following the automobile analogy, if the previous owner had disconnected the tie rod, then the accident would be unavoidable.
....prior Presidents were given the same advice from the generals (give us more time)...along with a request for billions of dollars to train the Afghan military. Delaying another few months, or even years, would have resulted in the same outcome....with American more casualties to boot. Our military has been abused enough by this un-winnable "build Afghanistan in our image" mission.
You know what so sad about this is.. there are still people left there and no one but far as I know STILL talks about it but one network.
Why did Bush send forces in there in the first place? They got their limbs blown off by IED’s. The U.S. spent $2 trillion defending a corrupt Islamic State and opium growing peasants. Trump made a deadline for leaving Afghanistan. Is Fox News saying the U.S. should have stayed spending hundreds of billions of dollars of tax payers money for nothing? The State Department warned people, most got out. Some people did not want the government telling them what to do and stayed behind.KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Months before President Joe Biden announced the U.S.’s complete withdrawal from Afghanistan last year, Washington’s watchdog warned that the Afghan air force would collapse without critical American aid, training and maintenance. The report was declassified Tuesday.
The report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko, submitted to the Department of Defense in January 2021, underscores that American authorities had been alerted that Afghanistan’s air force did not have the capabilities to survive after a U.S. withdrawal. In particular, the report points to U.S. failure to train Afghan support staff, leaving the air force unable to maintain its aircraft without American contractors.
****Please Note: The subject of the thread is BIDEN and what he knew**** Please do not attempt to derail the thread.
But, but....BIDEN!Why did Bush send forces in there in the first place? They got their limbs blown off by IED’s. Some of us already have. It was Trump who arranged the withdrawal of US troops (to occur in May!) not President Biden.
Other than that, all this weeping over Biden is starting to collect on the floor. We need a mop.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) Washington’s watchdog warned that the Afghan air force would collapse without critical American aid, training and maintenance.
Exactly -- And the reason that the Taliban weren't attacking US forces in the past year was because Donald was able to appease them with the promise of a full retreat.
How many Taliban attacks happened when BIDEN did NOT withdraw by the May deadline Trump made?
Answer: none
When does responsibility go with the current commander in chief and not the one that was out of office For eight months before and had zero ability to do anything.
It was Biden who had full operational control
It was Biden who was the Commander in Chief
It was Biden who disregarded his military advisors
It was Biden who disregarded our ally’s calls for help
It was Biden who promised not to leave until everyone was out.
Just like his predecessor, Biden had the ability to change the timeline. He already did it once from May to September.
It was Biden who failed
Biden took their ability to learn how to defend themselves. Drat that Bidenif the Afghan force wasn't able to be trained in ALL the years the Americans & other countries were there, then there was something seriously wrong with the Afghan forces, wouldn't you say?
I applaud Biden for getting us out, finally
citizens had plenty of warning about leaving the country
up to them to get their paperwork in order
Which is interesting, don't you think? Donald truly got nothing out of his deal.
He was legally bound to pulling out in May, huh?
