I got an devotion request from someone yesterday who had a very powerful story, Unlike other devotions of mine, I must warn you This is topic covers content based around sex, and is very disappointing to read at first. but I pray that as you read you will understand the point I am trying to make on behalf of this young man. I talked with a young man yesterday who had requested a devotion on a topic he was struggling with, at first I had no idea what to say or how I could bring this topic about in a devotion, after praying on it the Lord gave me the answer I needed.
This young man is basically in a the early stages of his Christian life, Reading and Praying daily growing in faith and in knowledge. It came time for his first Mission from God, a young girl was placed in of his path, one who was struggling in life and was in need of friendship and above all the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They spent a lot of time talking, and he would bring her to church and he felt he was making great progress in being a leader, someone she could look up to for guidance and to communicate questions she had of the Gospel, and of life. They had many great conversations about theology and what being a Christian meant. One night they were hanging out together and Satan's arrows began to fly he began to feel attracted to her, and she was admitting some attraction to him. They kissed which was the fiery arrow that ignited his sinful act, he has sex with her and in an instant his life was upside down. The conviction weighed heavy on his heart and he felt he had lost his friendship with God, his trust of this person whom trusted him, and trust in himself. His first actual mission from God and he failed it. He came to me asking many questions which I knew not how to answer but today I found a point of view, a biblical view which shed some light on his situation.
2 Samuel chapter 11 and 12,( I am not going to post them since they are long but I will some it up.)
David king of Israel lusted after Bathsheba a woman who was married, he committed adultery with her and she conceived a child. Upon the news of this David ordered her husband to the front lines of battle where he was to be left alone and be killed. Nathan the prophet of the Lord came and rebuked king David and shared with him how God was dissatisfied with him. (if you have read both chapters I will begin discussing my thoughts now )
King David was seen as the protector, guide, and ruler of Israel. He was chosen as a child to be used by God, and anointed king over Israel. When he awoke and began to lust Satan through everything he had onto David to make him fall. After the sin was committed he reaped what he had sewn and his secret was unable to be kept since Bathsheba became pregnant. In a state of chaos he took his sin further by committing murder by sending this man to die in battle. in a sense he dug himself deeper into his hole (reference to the man in the hole devotional). When Nathan came and rebuked David for his sin, he said a pretty incredible thing. in 2 Samuel 12:13 Then David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. Nathan replied, The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. What an incredible Verse right here. Adultery and Murder yet the LORD took it away. Now we all know from reading that David had to deal with his punishment God told him what was to happen because of his sins. But this verse shows God as the Father, I picture David coming into his Fathers house ashamed and afraid, he listens to the quick guide lines of punishment and right when he feels all is lost God tells him that he is forgiven. What did David do after his sin was taken away? Most people view sin today as a quick confession and off to the next sin. David had his sin taken away but after the baby died, and the dust began to settle he went out into the desert and repented. We see all over psalms the pain and anguish which constantly plagued David's heart. The amount of effort he put into repenting, the time, the emotions. How often do we hear of someone doing this? This young man asked me for advice on what he should do and I gave him the best answers I could think of. One, You need to come before God repent and except your punishment, Two, discuss with this young girl the seriousness of what happened. and Three you need to inform her mother. ( a quick side note of this story, the young man was spending a lot of time talking to the young girls mom and trying to fulfill his Godly Mission) "Quick side note number two in the end of this devotion I will discuss Gods Missions a little bit*
Now we look at the three things I felt he should do, and in a sense we find it in order of easiest to hardest. Its easy to pray to God about what you have done, Its pretty easy to talk to someone you have bonded with in a way of sexual acts, but it is paralyzing to have to confess your sin to the mom of the young girl. I thought about this a lot last night, Shouldn't it be the opposite? I feel we spend so much time thinking its so easy to come to God because we are not face to face with him. In a way the most shame, and fear we have should come from approaching the most Holy of Holy. He has informed me that he did all three and asked what else I think he should do. Now First off I am not the person to give you guidelines and ideas on how to go about this situation because I am not God. I told him he needs to spend all of his free time repenting focusing on finding the Lord, and asking him what his next options should be. I suggested he stopped talking to the young girl for the time being because he needs to spend time rebuilding and growing stronger in his relationship with God before he could offer more counsel to her. its goes back to something a friend once told me "How can you expect to love someone when you cannot even love yourself" Lets reword this in a a new way "How can you offer help to someone where you fail in this same situation" I gave him an analogy which I am going to remake for you now. his was on hermit crabs and shelters but I find this one better.
There was an Olympic Gymnast who won Gold three years in a row, one day on his way home while driving a motorcycle he got hit by a car and completely destroyed his leg. He gave up at first, feeling completely defeated and that he would never be able to achieve his previous title of Gold. He ended up putting everything he had into retraining from the basics all the way up to where he was. after 4 years he went back to the Olympics and ended up doing better then ever before, he had pushed himself harder then he ever needed to the results were incredible to say the least.
Its what you do when you fail, that shows how much you accomplish. We all struggle in sin, and with temptation I don't care if your a 1minute year old Christian or a 100 year old Christian life is a constant battle against evil. David a man after Gods own heart, a victorious king, a wise man, but yet he still lost his battle against sin. But he did not give up, he repented and pushed on to continue to live out his life for God. We see how his life continued to be a constant plague from his son raping the sister, to being kicked out of his kingdom so on and so on. Its slightly different now that Christ has came to cover our sins we do not have to have a long out drawn broken life because we can rely on Christ, put everything onto him and he works with us to get out of our holes.
A few last closing notes. This is a sad situation on the fact that this person was chosen by God to reach out to this lost soul. However I have witnessed first hand that God is a God of second chances, even if God drops this young man from her life he will bring someone else to finish off where he has started. God leaves nothing unfinished. My prayers go out to this young man that the Lord will open his heart and mind to the fullness of his actions and that he will be able to repent and overcome the errors of his way. When I last talked to this young man he shared with me how broken he feels, like God completely broke him down and held the mirror up to the filth which was his current state. He stated that even if he ruined everything he had with this girl and her mom that it was a very difficult powerful life lesson that he needed to learn it was just sad how drastic the situation was that he had to learn it from. If you would like to join him in prayer please do so as he is going through a hard time in his walk right now because of this and he is holding vastly onto the hand of God and is not letting go.
God the Quest giver. You will find an interesting view I take on what God calls us to do in a sense he Assigns us Missions, and Quests and as we are victorious we can feel ourselves leveling up in him. as we grow we get more knowledge, more faith, more courage, more strength its a constant growth. Putting it into words that people today seem most common with from Video games is a nice way to get a point across. Finally I would just like to say this devotion was my point of view from what I have prayed on and read in the Bible. You may not agree with it, or you may feel distaste towards it and that is fine.
