• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello,

I would like if you could assit me in a issue that is causing me great anxiety.

I was an atheist for many years. I have sinned in ignorance. Now after Reading scripture guilt took over me. I have commited minor property damage and took money fraudulently. Nothing really serious.

Recently I have contacted many of the involved parties. Many didn't even replied. But there is an wronged party that, years ago, I took around 350$ fraudulently. And had the intent to take another 750$ but quit.

Now I have confessed to the injured party my wrongdoings. I was prepared to face my consequences in order to put this issue into the past. The company replied and just asked me for the value I took.

After reading Leviticus 6, I decided to pay back the value plus 20% like commanded. The next day I get a call from the company telling me they were going to give me the extra money back (the 20% extra), because they can't keep it or accept it.

Now. I still feel guilty because, Zacchaeus restored more that 20%, he restored 400%. Do I have to do the same? Is it a new commandment of the New Testament? I still feel guilty because of Zacchaeus. I feel that if he did it, I have to do it, or I won't be saved.

Also, do I have to make restitution for the money I didn't took? But was about to?

Please help.

May the Father bless you.

Salvation is not based on that idea you have. To be saved one must be "born again" by receiving the Lord Jesus into one's heart and be evermore devoted to Him as Savior and Lord of one's life. It is not about good works. Since the company has accepted the stated conditions and returned the extra, it is settled with them. You can thank God for His mercy and care, and be settled with God. Just continue in faithfulness to Him, and remember 1 John 1:9-10!

It sounds like you've done what you were called to do. God gives you directions through the Holy Spirit, and you clearly followed them. Various examples are what God called them to do - not mandatory restitution to the degree that others may have done. In addition, it is within our ability to carry out what we are called to do. If financially you couldn't do more, then that doesn't make you have sin or make your resitution less.

There is guilt that tells us when we did wrong, which is good. Then there is guilt that eats us up over things that we have no guilt for. For example, the company giving back the 20%. They would have returned it even if you repaid 400% over.

Allow yourself to receive the grace God has given you. He set change upon your heart and life, and you are obedient. No shame or guilt there.
