Ok so i decided to go through my parent's loft to have a good look for the Bible i was given as a child. (No luck in my own loft!)

I've got a few boxes of books i've left up there that i'm going to take to a Car boot sale this weekend.

No joy finding my Christening Bible however i have come across one i now remember being given at a County Agricultural fair when i was ten.

Its a TBS bible? Anyone ever heard of this?

Having no luck finding the bible i wanted i have now ordered an ESV which is coming tomorrow from Amazon. :)

I am not acquainted with the TBS; but recently ordered and received the ESV myself. It is a recent translation and I like the way it is worded. Seems to have clarity and easier to understand than some versions. Another I have used for years and like a lot is the NIV. (New International Version). The ESV is a good choice! Go with it! :)

Get yourself a copy of the NKJV too. If your doing any in depth study into a passage, then I'd advise you to take the time to read the NKJV.

I've a few NIV's knocking about and my study bibles the NKJV, the language is a little clunky however, so for smooth reading the NIVs a bonus. ESV i'm not overly familiar with, but it's always got a good translation on bible.cc however. Bible.cc is a site showing you the (I don't know) 20 or so most popular translations of any given passage.

Good luck on your new quest I almost envy you the voyage.

Thanks everyone :) went to church today and it was really nice. My four year old was a pain but they all thought she was lovely and she enjoyed the cake and juice after the service haha. Even got a go at blowing out the cake candles and was given an extra piece to take home (a members birthday cake).
Anyway I was very happy with it and everyone was very friendly and amicable, the reverend said they use the niv bible so I'm going to order one of those too. He also gave me a copy of the new believers bible (the new testament) I've been going through it today and its very good at explaining everything. :)

Dear trowe87,

I like NKJV because it seems to me to have more details and be richer in content, but I like ESV good for easy flow of words and precise meaning. I like NIV84 as well, but the newer NIV versions have changed some of the words for gender neutrality which bothers me a bit (NIV2013 and TNIV are the biggest culprits) which is in my opinion considered tampering with the Bible and not okay for me. But I like the lder NIV versions they are very good too like ESV.

KJV is good but very hard to understand and apparently not as accurate as some newer versions, but NKJV is good modern day of KJV that I like. I use ESV on indle and NKJV on phone/computer. (ESV is free on Kindle)

I have a NKJV which is a good cross-reference of passages for comparison. My study Bible is the Old Scofield Edition of the KJV --an excellent Book with commentaries for learning the meanings of various passages; and it comments on some discrepancies by various Translators (there are some errors in every Version, for man is not perfect).
