Here is one of my favorite passages and it speaks volumes to me about how my heart should be before Him:


Psalms 51
1. Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. 2. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 3. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. 4. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. 5. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. 6. Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. 7. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8. Make me to hear joy and gladness, That the bones which You have broken may rejoice. 9. Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. 10. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me with Your generous Spirit. 13. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You. 14. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
15. O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. 16. For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. 17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart These, O God, You will not despise.

Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!

Therefore, let us fear if,
while a promise remains of entering His rest,
any one of you may seem to have come short of it.

For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also;
but the word they heard did not profit them,
because it was not united by faith in those who heard. For we who have believed enter that rest,
just as He has said,
"AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH,
THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST,"
although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day:
"AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS";
and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST."
Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it,
and those who formerly had good news preached to them
failed to enter because of disobedience, He again fixes a certain day, "Today,"
saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before,
"TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,
DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."
For if Joshua had given them rest,
He would not have spoken of another day after that.
So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works,
as God did from His.
Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall,
through following the same example of disobedience.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword,
and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit,
of both joints and marrow,
and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest
who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God,
let us hold fast our confession.
For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. *(Hebrews 4)*
