One of the things that stands out to me about the Bible, and that I try to help others see as well, is just how precise the chronology in the Bible is. It truly is amazing!
We understand that the inspired writers had a reason for writing what they wrote, and that becomes very apparent as we start to understand the chronology. The Holy Spirit made sure that certain details would be recorded for us, but, it's not possible to understand the full significance of these details individually.
For example, Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born. He was past the age where he could father a child naturally. This helps us to understand the miraculous nature of how God fulfilled His promise to Abraham and Sarah. But beyond that, there doesn't seem to be much more that we can glean from the fact that Abraham was 100 years old.
Joseph was 17 years old when his brothers sold him into slavery. Again, once the initial fact is learned, any more study on his age seems trivial.
Sarah was 127 when she died. Darius was "about 62" years old when he received the kingdom. Individually, just facts. But collectively, each fact is an integral piece to a much larger puzzle.
To help us see how this puzzle all fits together, I've placed the entire Biblical chronology into a spreadsheet and have made it available to everybody in the world to view and contemplate. I invite you to examine this Timeline.pdf spreadsheet and pray that it can be useful to you in helping understand more deeply the holy Word of God.
