Hello I was just curious and wondering when do you guys read your bible and for how long on the average? I read about 5 chapters a day at night before I go to bed and then I pray for about three minutes. I just started Matthew and I plan to read the whole New Testament. I hope I can make time to read my Bible every day, it's really hard! :(

I generally read my bible in the morning. I have read through the new testament 3 times since I have started reading every day. I'm currently reading Acts, and Isaiah. I try and read psalms and proverbs from time to time as well. Reading 5 chapters per day is great! I pray that you will be successful in your daily reading, as well as your goal.

I find that having a new testament commentary handy, helps me with the hard parts.
John Macarthurs Study bible has helped me a great deal. Still tuff sometimes though.

God bless

I read the New Testament just reading for about an hour or two before or after work (depending on what shift I had) I go to the park and read up in a tree or go to the food court in the mall if it is too Hot, cold, or wet. I have a hard time reading at home since the computer is here and so are my 3 brothers and their videogame playing... I usually have to go out for no distractions or temptation. After reading the new testament, I read Job and then the old testament starting where I had left off (somewhere in the middle of all those names of ppl and places) I am now on 2Kings, almost done with that... Just started up on it yesterday before meeting friends at the city pool after two weaks of not reading because of the two hurricanes that were supposed to come our way. (really a poor excuse, I know but such is life) I'm starting up again after being convicted of a few things while on these forums.

I used to take a pocket edition to work and read on breaks and at lunch. I wanted to read several versions and would buy as many of the New Testament as I could. What I really use a lot now is my Online Bible which has more versions of the Bible than I can use. Currently, I use the King James and the New Living translations in parallel.
When I first started to read the Bible, I prayed that God would put His word in my heart and help me remember it, and He did. I can remember verses about just about anything in life now and it helps me to not sin, just as David said in the Psalms. It came in handy, too, when I was blind for a short time and could not read. God bless you as you seek and study His Living Word.

I generally read the Bible at night. I generally read anywhere from a verse or two to a few chapters. I also usually pray for approximately 5 or 10 minutes depending on how much is on my mind. I have found that chronological reading of the Bible can be very tough. I have also found that by picking a topic and researching that topic in the Bible, I actually learn more and am more interested when reading about it. However, I am now going through a class at church where we have to read an entire book of the Bible in one week and then during the next class, we discuss the book we just read. The classes just started yesterday evening and I have to read Genesis by next Wednesday evening. I hope to read Genesis during the day time and do my other reading at night time. Sometimes when I am very tired, I don't read the Bible at all, I just say a short prayer and go to bed.

I read the bible various times during the work week. Usually 2-3 chapters a day during my lunch hour and breaks. I also enjoy reading and studying the bible with my husband. We have started a bible study on Saturday nights with some couples in the church who are new in Christ and are having a hard time understanding the word. I have read the new testament 3 times and am currently working on the old testament.

I used to follow a reading plan but I found that I kept falling out of reading the bible because it was too slow for me. So I just started plowing through the old testement this year to read fast and get an overall feel for the whole bible. It's working really well for me. I feel much more familiar with the bible already, although I'm currently in Jeremiah and have a bit more to go. I read the new testement as the Spirit moves me. I find much encouragement there so reading the NT is easy to do right now. I mainly read the epistles though, as you can sit and read them in a sitting. I also tend to flip to the words of Jesus for encouragement all the time. I try to set aside time in the morning and in the night, because then I know I read while I am fresh, but I also can read something good before going to sleep. Sometimes I get in to it and stay up for another hour in bed reading. But sometimes I just drift off to sleep. I remember hearing that the things we do/think/read before falling asleep are forgotten and not stored in memory (has something to do with how the brain stores short term memories?) I don't know if that's true, but I tend to feel better about my morning readings as a result. I think everyone is different and it's best to find a reading plan and time that works best for you. I was a college student for years, so I prefer to study sitting at a desk. It helps my mind get organized. ;-)
