  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We recommend you pick up a Tyndale Publishers "One Year Bible", rather than using a traditional Bible. Simply because the Tyndale version organizes each day's readings for you: OT, NT, Psalms, Proverbs. You don't need to flip around all over a Bible each day finding the daily verses. Also, many people have found the New Living Translation (NLT) to be great for the One Year Bible plan. It is a very easy translation to read over the course of a year.
It's interesting you posted this today. :)

Over the weekend I finished up going thru Proverbs...
And pulled my One Year Bible of my bookshelf.

It was a college graduation present from the church I was attending at the time.
Signed by the pastor in 1986.

I do not normally read the Living Bible but like the article mentioned it is already split into the 365 daily readings.

Yes, I am planning to read the bible again in 2005. it took me part of 2003 and part of 2004 to read the bible for the first time. I'm excited to start again with a new plan. I might actually follow John MacArthur's advice to read the Old Testement twice and to read books of the NT over and over again through the 12 months. I'm not sure how that would work out, to cover everything. I suppose he must have a plan somewhere for that. Otherwise, I will probably just start all over again, reading like I did this last time. I would start in the OT, and do some in depth studies in various NT books, but eventually read everything through once too.

I am not yet finished reading the Bible through this year. I am now in Luke I hope I can finish it this year if not then I will continue with it and also start reading it through again.
I have lost track of the number of times I have read through the Bible but the real thrill is not just reading through it but learning something new everytime I read God's Word.

I have a one year Bible at home and I saw on another website an interesting thing to do also... read 5 Psalms a day and 1 Proverb a day and you will go through both books completely in one month! GOD BLESS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

at the moment i am about a third of the way through the bible. I've just started Chronicles. Having read mostly over and over the NT in the last few years, it's very moving (but takes time and patience) to read the accounts in the OT again.

Hopefully i should be finished the whole bible by May/June 2005. Then guess what? i'll read it again!

How long does it take most of you to read the whole Bible?
It seems like everyone takes a very long time to read it

This year I read the whole Bible in half a year and read the NT 5 times
It depends if you are just reading it or studying it.
Takes much longer (assuming you do not have all day to spend at it)
if you are looking up related info in multiple reference books along with it.

I'm almost done reading the bible for 2004! And I'm really excited because this will be the first time that I have read the entire bible. I did skip a couple books that I know I have read before. Maybe I will have to go back and read those on New Years! Hurray! It's such a good feeling to have spent so much time in the Word of God. I feel like I have gotten a really good overview of the whole counsel of God. Now it's time to start my readings in 2005 with a more focused perspective. I guess I'll study a few of the books in greater depth this coming year, while also reading briskly through the entire book the whole year.

That's great! Anything that encourages people to jump into the word of God (as long as it doesn't go against the Bible) is wonderful.
I recently (like this morning) made up my own plan to read the Bible through in 260 days (there is no significance to the number 260 it just worked out that way). It is simply reading 2 NT chapters per day, 3 OT (excluding Pslams) chapters per day, and 1 Psalm per day.
That plan may not be for everyone, but I like it.
