• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hey guys, I'm a High school student that is in the process of developing a game for PC at first then maybe move to Xbox or another such console. The game would start with Abraham's 318 against the armies of Shinar (Babylon)- genesis 14 and end with Israel's wars with it's own Tribe of Benjamin- Judges 19-20.
Please comment your ideas or thoughts on my Game. I'm trying to see the Audience that I could pull in.
If the Game end up being well liked it would be made into the series ending with the War in heaven between Michael and Satan.

Pardon my frank opinion, but I am against video games because it encourages people to be violent. Many teens also obsess over video games to the point that they don't live their lives, try to serve God, or try to learn about Him.

Would this really teach people about Christ? And is a video game "Christian" if it draws people away from God?
Make the game only playable for 2 hours a day ^^
So they'll play something else.

Really, if I created a "Bible-based" war game, I would feel quite guilty about it. First of all, I would not be comfortable taking people's money and giving them something which will help them waste time. And, as I said before, "Bible-based" doesn't describe war or video-games. Jesus told us not to kill, He didn't tell us to fight. And Christians are commanded to serve others, not waste time. I also wonder if all these war based video games are part of the reason there have been so many school shootings and the like. People have gotten used to shooting all the time when they're playing, so why not shoot in real life? So if you will pardon my pacifist leanings, I would advise you to abandon the idea and focus on helping others instead.

Now, I agree with a lot of that, and I used to think that video games may be responsible, but then it occurred to me that things like that have always been a problem. The rise of video games and the media world we live in might add to that, but they are not the sole reason for chaos. I don't want to argue, I just don't agree with that assessment. Also, with the rise of the internet and social media, I feel like Atheists and Agnostics have risen also. But, if something like this was made, I feel like it would encourage more people to read the Bible and join the kingdom of Christ. So really, a game like this would serve others. I don't mean to seem argumentative, I'd just like to offer another perspective. =)

You are actually very right that this is not the cause of such problems. The real issue we have is the sinful nature of man. However, I feel that shoot-everything video games are one of many things that often feeds this sinful nature.

Yes

I understand. And I would like to offer one more perspective-my own again. Another thing that bothers me, as this idea is developing, is that I don't think this game would do anything to reach unbelievers. The important things that people need to learn about Chr istianity are 1. The Gospel- how Jesus died on the cross to keep us from going to Hell- and 2. What we need to do because of this- we need to repent, pray, and try to obey God. I feel that teaching people about battles in the Old Testament would not teach anyone the core of Christianity. Also, many Atheists see the Bible as a storybook, kind of like Aesop's fables. The idea of a "Bible-based" GAME would fit with that view. (It might even encourage that view, because it making the Bible game material puts it into the same category as Star Wars or Spiderman)
and as for encouraging people to read the Bible? Well, my guess is it would either encourage people to play more of that game or (if it's crappy software) encourage people to buy another game.

Allow me to butt in here, but video games are not the reason for increased violence. Studies have shown that the brain can deduce whether or not it is doing/seeing real violence or not. It can tell whether something is real or not. When watching Private Ryan or playing Black Ops II, your brain can distinguish that this is fake. When watching a documentary on war, and you see a child succumb to wounds, your brain realizes this is real.

So why is there an increase in school shootings? Stardom. Every single shooter gets thrown into the spotlight and made infamous. Some people will go to any length just to be noticed, whether in a good light or bad.

And to the game itself, I've gotten a few kids to read their Bible because I told them that it had a ten-foot giant in it, numerous battles, a fat guy had a sword sucked into him, a guy got a tent spike in his head, et cetera. There is a time for peace and a time for war.

I wouldn't really condone a Biblical violent video game...the violent events in the Bible serve as a background to how much we needed Christ. I have nothing against other violent video games (such as COD etc), but I don't think religion should be brought in.

However as an Otaku, I would fully support a Biblical visual novel...with anime Jesus!
