“Better is open rebuke​

than hidden love.​

Faithful are the wounds of a friend;​

profuse are the kisses of an enemy.​

One who is full loathes honey,​

but to one who is hungry everything bitter is sweet.​

Like a bird that strays from its nest​

is a man who strays from his home.​

Oil and perfume make the heart glad,​

and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.​

Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend,​

and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity.​

Better is a neighbor who is near​

than a brother who is far away.​

Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad,​

that I may answer him who reproaches me.​

The prudent sees danger and hides himself,​

but the simple go on and suffer for it.” (Proverbs 27:5-12 ESV)​

Better is Love’s chastisement
From a friend,
Than to have your sins coddled
To no end.

Wisdom is seeing danger –
Flees from sin,
Trusting in your Redeemer,
Pure within.

Jesus is your salvation –
Freed from sin –
Giving you life eternal,
Without end.

Trusting in His provisions,
Peace within,
Simply by giving your life
All to Him.

Living your life for Jesus
Ev’ry day,
Tell of His mighty power,
Lives to save.

Listening to Him speaking
To your heart,
Tell of His grace which gave you
A new start.

I like Proverbs 27:5-12, cos it connects with Proverbs 20:30 and Proverbs 28:23, as well as Hebrews 4:12. All four verses speak on how the truth may sting, but can clean away the evil in our lives.

The verses:

Proverbs 20:30 (ESV): "Blows that wound cleanse away evil; strokes make clean the innermost parts."

Proverbs 27:5-6 (ESV): "Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy."

Proverbs 28:23 (ESV): "Whoever rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than he who flatters with his tongue."

Hebrews 4:12 (ESV): "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. "
