Thread: Ancient's Wake
Name: Beth Lemson
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Age: 34
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 138 pounds
Appearance: What people usually notice first about Beth is her hair...well-defined dark curls swirling and cascading absolutely everywhere. Even when she attempts to pull it back into a bun, the bun is inevitably messy and thick with curls sticking out here and there, same if she tries to put it in a ponytail. Her appearance reflects that of a woman in her late twenties, not her mid-thirties. Her eyes are large and milk chocolate brown, her lips pink and full, though they thin to a line when she's upset or angry. Beth's build is best characterized as having "meat on her bones". She's not thin and not fat, the evidence that she's birthed three children showing up in some lovehandles on her hips, a slightly larger bust than she had before, and stretch marks. All in all, she's pretty and walks with a confidence and grace, her smile ready and her eyes sharp.
Her wardrobe consists of the style dresses of the day, though she does tend to dress more modestly. She prefers not to wear low-cut dresses as she is a professor and wants to keep her male students' eyes on what she's trying to show them and not on her bust. She also likes neutral colors, not ones that stand out in a crowd, but not ones that make her sink into the background either. She wears a small pocketwatch pinned to her waistline on the front of her dress and a pendant made special for her with the word "Truth" on it written in the language of the Ancients.
Personality: Beth tends to be an introvert a lot of the time. It's not that she's shy. She just prefers her own company...and that of her books. If she's not found with her nose in a book, she's either eating or sleeping or teaching. The rest of the time? She's learning. History is her passion. She comes most alive when she's teaching, getting lost in the past. She's patient and openminded, with a quick, intuitive brain. She's also very well spoken and rarely curses. She does have a hard time separating her life from her teaching, however, and will frequently treat those younger than her as if they were her students. She expects excellence and strives her best to give it in return.
History: Beth never knew her parents. A fever swept through their town, leaving quite a few dead, a few months after Beth was born. Her grandparents took her in after her parents died and she grew up with them on their horse ranch, raising thoroughbreds. She was given a good education and was found to be quite the child genius. By thirteen she was ready to go to college, which she did. She graduated in three years, around the same time she met her husband, Bartlet. The two fell into a whirlwind romance and were married six months later. She became pregnant quickly and gave birth to a son a year later. In all, she had three children, two sons and then a daughter.
She attempted to keep up her studies as she parented her children, but it became increasingly difficult the more children she had. Beth's first love, learning, had been put on a back burner and she sunk deeper into depression because of it. Add to this the fact that she and Bartlet didn't seem to be as made for one another as they had both thought, the couple getting in frequent fights, mostly over her inability to go back to school. When her second son, who had always been a little frail, died of pneumonia after two years of suffering from the illness, the entire family battling for his life, Beth couldn't take it anymore. Finally, after eleven years of marriage, the two parents came to an agreement, separating and getting their marriage annulled. Bartlet took the two remaining children, the older boy, William, and the youngest, Aleisha, as he had no problem caring for them; and Beth went back to school, earning her teaching degree in a year and then securing a position at a local, prominent university as a professor of history and mythology. She still sees her children every weekend and then takes them for some time during the summer, but most of her time is devoted to her studies and her pupils, living the life she feels she was born to lead.
