  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I take a prepregnancy/pregnancy/ breast feeding vitamin. I find it useful because I find it difficult to get three serves of calcium per day and so the four serves required during pregnancy are almost unattainable! When I was pregnant I found it reassuring to know that even if my diet wasn't so great that day, there were vitamins getting to my baby.

In prepregnancy it's probably not as important though, right? I figure if I have a healthy diet then that's probably better than taking the multivitamin. The reason I take the vitamin now that we're trying is that it is recommended to take folic acid (which my vitamin contains) six weeks prior to conception. The most vital time for folic acid for the baby is right at and just after conception, and the build up over the previous six weeks is very important.

So I would have a healthy lifestyle for a year prior to conception and a folic acid supplement from six weeks prior. I would save the multi vitamin until I was trying or had conceived.

the main reason for taking pre-natal vitamins is for the folic acid - that prevents nural-tube defects.

I have been taking the Wal-Mart brand and they are just as good as any other. - 2 things though

1 - pre-nates have been known to cause constipation, so you may also need to bump up the fiber intake - I've never had the constipation problem

2 - watch the dosage - I was looking at two bottles that were $.10 difference in price, but then I looked at the dosage on the back, and one bottle required that you take 2 pills a day - which more than doubled the price - I went with the cheaper (single pill) option.

I just may take that route. :) Thank you so much.
