What do you consider to be the best single note in rock history? A note, that when you hear the song, you are listening and waiting for that specific note because you love it, and it does something to you - sparks some emotion or feeling in your soul. This can be a guitar note, bass note, piano, even vocal.
Name the artist and song, and if you know the name of the note, or even where it is played on whatever instrument, list that as well.

My favorite note of all time is found in Any Colour You Like, by Pink Floyd, from the album Dark Side of the Moon. It is the first electric guitar note of the song, and comes in at the 1:19 mark of the song. After listening to some amazing synthesizer/organ for the first minute and 18 seconds, this note kicks off one of the best electric guitar duets in rock history. This note is a D note, played on the 10th fret on the high e string. If you do not know this song, I suggest you get a hold of it and listen to this note. It is simply amazing. It does something to me that I cannot describe, it takes me off into fantasy land, off to "that place." :)

Oh man, that is a really good question!!
I'd say at the moment in "My Immortal" by Evanescence the first time you hear a drum, as the bridge section ends. I know it's not a "note", but out of all the songs out at the moment, that's quite special in the transition from just vocals, piano and light strings to the full on rock band experience.
As for the best in rock history, I have to narrow down plenty of guitar solos to get to one!

Well I am going to have to check that song out! And for the spirit of this thread, I think we will have to allow a drum beat to be included - but only if its better than any note!! :)

Rock history huh?
Allright but yer probly not going to agree..that's okay! I love ya anyways ps139...nonetheless, Im a lot older than you...but here it is:

It's actually an acapella, harmonized chorus in a song, and I hope you know it:

From Seven Bridges Road:

There are stars in the Southern sky
And if ever you decide
You should go
There is a taste of time sweetened honey
Down the Seven Bridges Road
.......

The Eagles....best rock band of all time, anywhere....

If I remember right, this was a song on an album called "Live" that came out around 1979...

Hey Suzannah!
First off I want to clarify that this is an entirely subjective thread. So I do not expect anyone to agree with me, but it doesn't really matter since its subjective. Which particular notes in those songs are you referring to as the best?? I want to hear them! :)
And KristianJ you did a nice job in your veiled request, I did not suspect it :).

Here ya go...

I think this is right...I play harp, but I play a little guitar...tell me if this wrong, but it's that first D, there's a slight slide in the stylization the way they do it:

C - D - / / / D C G G /

There are stars in the southern sky
And if ever you decide you should go
There is a taste of time sweetened honey
Down the seven bridges road

a note that sticks out in my mind is not rock, at all, so i think im going to break the rules of this thread. It is on a track called "Comptine D'un Autre Été: L'après Midi" from the foreign film's "Amelie" soundtrack. I wouldnt begin to know what the note is, but the instrument is the piano and the note is very high. its simply wonderful and sparks the "feeling in my soul"

now a great note from rock music.....

in the song "baba oreilly" from The Who's "who's next" album, there is a very short guitar solo where the notes get really high. In it, is my favorite rock note ever cause it just sounds so awsome.

Little sidenote story:
One of the reasons I love this song, is I first heard it in a foriegn port city, as a sailor on a barge...we were passing under/through SEVEN draw BRIDGES... . The references to the stars in the "southern sky", just sort of painted a picture of my life as a sailor back then..it just "stuck" in my head as a very accurate, literal place/time in my life...

Thats awesome Suzannah. Your story in your other post is really cool. Do you know who plays this song? I want to hear it.

Yes, it's the Eagles.... :)
It's that D that gets me everytime!!!! :)

Don Henley played lead for them back then. Jackson Browne had already left I think...But Joe Walsh was with them (he had his own little band also called Joe Walsh and the Monstertones) AND HE WAS THE BEST GEE-TAR PLAYER!!!!
:)

Awesome! Is this the first note the first time the lead guitar comes in? From the first solo? If so, then this note is played at the 3:05 minute mark of the song. It truly is a great note. I am 99% sure its an F, played on the 13th fret, high e string. Interestingly enough, this seems to be in the same key as the song I mentioned - they key of D minor/F major. This key is perhaps my favorite in all of music.

Our good friend Nadroj1985 noticed this thread and I think his opinion should be included:

Here's mine: The vocal interlude in Radiohead's "Creep," where Thom Yorke repeatedly sings the word "run." The final and incredibly climactic "run" is just sublime. The most beautiful bit of vocals ever, IMHO.
