  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hah. i think nearly all music does this for me, as i have a tendency to get lost in my own fantasy worlds. this is one of the main reasons i like to play music as i walk to school--it takes me away from the world that is crazy around me. but. obviously, some music does it more for me than others. sigur ros definitely does that for me. not just cause i can't understand the lyrics, but the lead singer's voice and the way they use their voices has a transcendental quality. man, this is really hard, cause as i said, it all transports me to some other place than the here.....maybe the stuff that's more ethereal has a stronger effect--cocteau twins, shoegazer stuff....

I love that song. My personal fave off of HTDAAB. My favorite song in respect to imagery...oh boy. There are a ton of songs I love for their imagery, but the two I like most, in pure respect to imagery, are Emaline by Ben Folds and For Me This Is Heaven by Jimmy Eat World.

Many Phish songs do this to me. For me, there is no better reason to listen to music than to have the music take you somewhere....

I saw the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra play the Scheherezade by Rimsky Korsakov, and almost the whole time I had this vivid movie playing in my head. That was amazing!!! It was like watching a dream... hard to describe.

I definitely can relate, Nico, I thought of Sigur Ros right away as well. When I want to kind of drift off with the music I'll put on some ambient or downtempo stuff. Or My Bloody Valentine.

I have alot of emotional, poignant songs that place me back in certain times in my life or remind me of locations and people. Sometimes a band as an entirety can do this.

The odd thing is, some of the time these songs remind me of stores. Take "Blow away" by Staind. It reminds me of Target on a rainy day. A Backstreet Boys song I hate reminds me of an Albertsons in my old city. Why songs take me to stores, I do not know. Maybe it's a sign of some sort.

Where The Streets Have No Name and Vertigo give me very strong mental pictures....Vertigo gives me that picture of the night club Bono talks about the song being about...Streets just takes me to another place. Thief by Third Day is another one, it takes me back to when Jesus died on the cross, very powerful song...

pretty much anything by King Diamond, because each CD is a horror story, each track is like a chapter.

Hmm my band played with King Diamond back in the 80's - they were a little more extreme than just a "horror story". But whatever flies your boat~

Me?
I would have to say anything Jeff Buckley live - the dude paints a picture just with his voice - my fave being "Satisified Mind"

Definitely. Whenever I hear a pop song from the mid-late 90's, it almost always brings me back to the van I was riding to and from middle elementary/middle school. The girls I carpooled with would always have the local pop music station on, so they were basically the soundtrack of my school life, whether I liked it or not.

But I would have to say the piece of music that brings the most images into my head would be Dark Side of the Moon album as a whole. Dark room + DSOTM turned up maximum volume with headphones = phychadelic trip across the space-time continuuum. I've been told it's even better while under the influence of certain illicit substances, but I can't attest personally to that
