Well I have a few nominations: -

The Holy Bible, by the Manic Street Preachers
A Night at the Opera, Queen
Jailbreak, Thin Lizzy
Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd
Bat out of Hell, Meat Loaf
Debaser, Pixies
I cant choose a single individual Beatles, so lets just say, most of them
Laterlus, Tool
Nevermind, Nirvarna
Echo Park, Feeder

Quite a few others that could be added, but for now these will do.

Likewise. If this was a best album EVER I wouldn't even include half of these on the list of nominations. I'd throw out everything except Dark Side of the Moon and something by the Beatles. Many of these other albums have been popular and have had some degree of influence in their time, but to even think that Nirvana or the Manic Street Preachers would be responsible for the "best album EVER?" It makes me ill thinking about it...

I mean no offense to anyone-- I enjoy these threads too-- but ultimately this is pointless. I can't stand the lists of "100 Best Albums/Artists" articles that get put out by Rolling Stone and all the other worthless music rags; IMO, music (like any other art form) is way too subjective for anyone to make these pronouncements with any real authority. [/rant] :sorry:

"The best album ever is the one you hate the most!" ;) :p

I love these threads. And I hate the Rolling Stone lists, they are sickening. They losr all hopes of objectivity when they order their lists according to the preferences of their subscribers. So that is why we need to come up with a better list!!!!!

I think that Dark Side of the Moon is hands down the best album ever.

It's agreat album that's for sure.:D

I think what makes an album your fav is a lot to do with where you were at the time, psycologically etc,

I have struggled with 2 albums for the "my fav" position,

They are
'A Night at The Opera' ....Queen....
and
'Going For The One'....YES

This minute it's Queen ;)

Yeah, the RS lists are normally pretty bad...

The RS list for top 500 albums was interesting. They did include a lot of great albums that don't usually get as much recognition (Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica comes to mind) most likely because of the fact that the list is so freaking huge. And they included every VU record, and a couple Miles Davis ones. There are many sins, too, of course, some expected (the Beatles overload at the top) and some not (the unbelievable decision to put The Bends above OK Computer).

Thats definitely true in this case. When I first heard Dark Side, my friend synched it up perfectly to the Wizard of Oz. I was just totally blown away. I bought it the next day and I listened to it like crazy. Everytime I hear the guitar come in on "Any Colour You Like" I get this flash in my mind of the Scarecrow haha! But trying to be as objective as possible I think still think its #1. There is just nothing else like it.

You know, DSOTM is pretty cool, I suppose, but I really don't think it's near what I would call one of the greatest ever. It just seems to lack that emotion factor for me. Perhaps it has to do with where I was psychologically (as cygnus suggests), I don't know. Don't get me wrong, it's a good album and I enjoy listening to it, but it has weaknesses.

Yeah, crazy ain't it? I have a friend who likes The Bends better as well, but OKC is beyond pretty much anything I've ever listened to. I can see where they were coming from, since The Bends possibly has better single songs on it than OKC, but OKC is just so much better as a cohesive whole that it doesn't matter. OKC is more a series of moments than it is a series of songs, IMO.
