CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I like what I've heard of him! Not only was he one of the finest swing clarinetists and bandleaders, he also ventured into classical music; I've heard of some old classical music recordings on which he plays clarinet.

a great musician and ambassador for music. one of the finest jazz instrumentalists, he was also more than capable in classical music. he commissioned and recorded original works by bartok, hindemith, and other important contemporary composers, and his recordings of some copland works and others still stand as some of the best in the catalog.
he reminds me a lot of wynton marsalis more recently. someone whose fame somewhat exceeds their importance to the historical development of the music, but who is an absolutely sublime and versatile player regardless, and a great public face for great music.

benny goodman is awsome!! i love listening to sing sing sing. its one of my favorite charts.
