What's everyone's opinion on this thing with the president, Professor Gates and Seargeant Crowley?

I'm not sure what went down as I haven't been paying attention too much. What happened and why is the President involved in this arrest?
Why does the media keep saying "3 men sharing a beer" I keep counting the men around the table and it looks like 4. Did I miss something or is Biden not considered male anymore?
Also what is the teachable moment?

Take it from a girl who knows- I'm in the district. Obama's opinion polls have been taking a hit lately--so what do yo do to get your ratings back up? You schedule a short evening with a professor and a police officer (and drop word to the press). A good will measure.

If you really want a scoop...I found out today that Obama's birth certificate really is forged. I don't know what they will make of it....but my sisters friends who are interning are a little freaked out.

The beer thing is a silly thing he ended up roping himself into. There was a notable black professor who got arrested by a cop a week or so ago. There were lots of cries of racism, and a report asked Obama about it. He made the mistake of saying the cop made a stupid move. It went ballistic after that. So, Obama had to back down and made mention that he should invite them to the White House for a beer to work out their differences. Well, the rest is history...

So Obama is encouraging two men to deal with their conflict via the methods Paul instructed in the NT, talking directly to one another. How dastardly! How dare he attempt to have something good come out of something bad?!

How can something good for Officer Crowley (who was only doing his job and according to all witnesses maintained his composure under extreme duress) come out of meeting with two black man who hollered "Racist"? I applaud him for showing up for the slaughter.

Obama the destroyer gets slammed regularly for right and good reasons. In this case saying that the police acted stupidly was a stupid statement from and rather stupid man who has no idea what was going on and then pulled the race card to defend his own stupidity and that of his stupid friend.

It's mainly for his public image. What's interesting to me is he claimed that he wasn't going after an apology from anyone, or even wanting to bring up the incident ("this is not an after-action report") but seriously how do you bury the hatchet without going there and somebody apologizing.

I live close to the area where this all went down... and there are some serious racial tensions in the area anyways. It seems as though the smallest thing can set off it off. That is truly unfortunate. This specific incident seems to be an all-around misunderstanding and not necessarily racial (except that everyone is ready to pop on the issue). It also seems (at least to me) that everyone involved does not want to admit their part in causing this fiasco (the police officer, for over reacting; the professor, for making it about race when it really wasn't; and the president, for making his 'Cambridge officers acted stupidly' comment on public TV).

It would appear as though in lieu of humbleness, they have chosen to have beer-oriented guy time instead. "We all played a hand in this screw-up, so lets have a few drinks, forget about it, and move on"

President Barack H. Obama is the President of the United States. if he were not a citizen, he would not have been a senator. all of this foolishness needs to stop. it is disrespect and also against the Word of God that states that we are to respect those in authority.

I thought it was a pretty cool thing for Obama to do. I think they kept calling it three men and beers because Biden showed up later and was actually drinking non-alcoholic beer.

This was a way for the president to smooth over his off-the-cuff remarks about the situation, as well as to get the two gentlemen involved to sit down and talk to each other.

It's my understanding that neither man apologized to the other, but agreed to go from this point on and to understand the important role both of them play in the world of race.

Whatever that entails, I don't know.
