  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nate,
Read through Romans Ch. 9:Vs 9& 10.
If you can say these things with the intention of making Jesus Lord of your life; then you have made a good decision.
Ask God to forgive your sins, and for Jesus to come into your life to stay.
Begin to attend Church regularly and allow God to change what He wants to change in you.
Talk to God, read the Bible and obey God.

Read through Romans Ch. 9:Vs 9& 10.
I believe you meant Romans 10:9-10. Verse 11 is good for helping understand those other two as well -

"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, 'Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.'" - Rom. 10:9-11

Also good:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16

Ask Jesus to forgive your sins. Believe that He paid the penalty for what you did and failed to do on the cross. Believe that He physically rose from the grave and later ascended into Heaven. Make Him the boss of your life and obey Him, even when you don't want to. Love Him. Become a full-on follower. Then you will definitely be saved.

How can I truly go about such a proccess? I have been reading through the Bible. I really want to join the Catholic church as well, but how would I even go about doing all of that?

Read the gospel of John (John 10:30 Jesus said "I and the Father are one." In John 1:12 says "As many as receive him to them gave he power to become the children of God." Then ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and to come into your heart. If you mean it then you will become a Christian at that moment, and Jesus says that he will never leave you nor forsake you.

After becoming a Christian, seek out a Bible-teaching ministry. Also remember that it is Jesus and Jesus alone who save. Read Ephasians 2:8-9. Also be mindful when you seek out a church, and make sure it is not the type of church that believe all others except them are going to hell. That would be a cult, so use wisdom.

You are saved by Jesus Christ alone, a personal relationship with God is not earned.

The first thing you need to do is to recognize your sinfulness and need for a savior.

You've got to repent and put your faith in Christ, believing that He died to take your punishment on the cross.

You say you want to become a Christian, but you also want to join the Catholic church.

You need to be aware going in that Catholicism teaches a lot of things that aren't Biblical and a lot of things that contradict the Bible.

I couldn't in good conscience suggest that anyone join that organization.

MY BROTHER,

Although i am Eastern Orthodox (the Roman Church and Eastern Orthodox Churches split in 1054), i have a lot of admiration for the Catholic Church and its Saints, and i wish you well in your quest for membership.

i would suggest that you post your questions at the Catholic Forum "One Bread, One Body" to be found at:

http://foru.ms/f26-one-bread-one-body-catholic.html

There are some here who tend to show their spiritual ignorance by bashing Catholics, so you are more likely to get correct, loving, and helpful answers at the Forum above.

MAY YOU BE BLESSED IN YOUR SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH!

[bible]Ephesians 2:8-10[/bible]

[bible]James 2:14-26[/bible]

[bible]1 John 1:9[/bible]

An active faith in Christ Jesus, admitting that you do wrong (confession), and repentance (turning from your sins) are all part of a commitment to Christ.

But they go generally in that order- I wouldn't expect anyone to repent before they have faith, or confess after they've repented.

MY BROTHER,

Jawsmetroid has laid things out Scripturally in perfect order for you. Do these things and consider yourself on the road to Salvation.

Keep in mind that Salvation is a process, not an event, and God, through His Holy Spirit, will guide your further growth into all Truth.

MAY YOU BE BLESSED!

Okay, I know I'm not supposed to 'respond' to other posts, but you nailed what I was trying to say, maybe more clearly than I did. Thanks!

If you really want to learn what you must do to be saved then you need to read the book of ACTS in the Bible.

This book not only tells you verbatim what to do to be saved, it shows you examples of people being saved. If you follow the steps outlined in ACTS as it is written then you'll not have any problems.

OP:

To become a Christian you do this.....

Ask Jesus to come into your life and He will forgive your sins and give you eternal life.

Yes, it is just that easy.

But then living out the Christian life is the great challenge after that.

Exactly so.

Don't tell him that. That's not what the Bible says and when you tell people that they can be saved without repentence and faith in Christ and His atonement on the cross, all you're doing is making false converts.

The only way that the Bible tells us we can be saved is by repenting of our sins and believing by faith that Christ died on the cross in our place.

While I don't disagree with you because God does demand repentance, Romans 10: 9&10 does say exactly what MandM says.
I know that "saying Jesus is Lord" is referring to a lifestyle change, it does begin there.
Also Romans says "anyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved."
Again there is no clear mention of repentance, but we know that it is required.
So both are right; simply one is more advanced than the other.
