  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lately I get sad whenever I think about the 1988 movie Beaches. It had a hit song called "Wind Beneath My Wings" and it was hugely popular with female audiences at the time, of all ages. I saw the movie once, but I don't remember much about it really.

But something I remember is when my cousins (two sisters) were visiting us around that time. They are about 6 and 7 years older than me. I hung out with one of them (who arrived in town a day earlier) when she came to visit. We went to the mall and she bought the Beaches tape as a gift for her sister. I remember her complaining about how she didn't like much popular music of the day. At the time it was becoming more hip hop and heavy dance oriented (Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson, etc).

This is just a very sad thing and I had to share it, even if it sounds crazy.

It was also one of the last good times I spent with my cousins, as our families drifted apart because of family quarrels shortly after that.
