Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
The scripture wrote above is probably one of the favorites of a lot peoples and is one of my favorites also.
However, I do believe sometimes this scripture is lifted out of context and tried to be use for something it was indented for.
First Paul had just said in verse 11. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Paul had learned whatsoever state he was in how to be content. He knew how to abound and suffer need. The way Paul could do this was through Christ, who strengthened him.
Paul is saying whatever situation you find yourself in you will be able to find strength in Christ to get through it.
To take this scripture and use it for any purpose other than what it was intended for, you will find yourself disappointed. And I have known of people that have done just that. They see something they feel is right to do and believe they should do it. Therefore, they use this scripture to try to achieve what they set out to do. However, in the end, they fell. All that does is giving the devil the opportunity to attack their faith. And say things like if you were truly a believer you should have been able to do what you said.
The scripture certainly will do what it says, but we must use it in the concept that it was given for. And it is a glorious comfort for Christians.
Regardless of what situation we are in, we can find comfort in knowing we can get through it because we can do all things through Christ which gives us strength.
Say, for example, if decide to build the biggest church in Atlanta GA for the glory of God. And you say to your people we can do this through Christ, who strengthens us.
Well, what if that was not Gods will for you to build the biggest church in Atlanta GA? Therefore, you fell to do it. Who made the mistake God or the man?
Without a doubt, the man made the mistake; he used the scripture for something that it was not intended to be use for.
The scripture will do exactly what it says it will do. And that is regardless of what situation we find ourselves in. We can be content with it through Christ witch gives us strength, and be content with it.
