I read Richard Baxter's practical works, a lot. His godly council is not divine but I have found his advice very helpful over the years. Baxter has a lot of "other" issues especially with justification so I am aware of that.

What are your thoughts on Baxter's "Christian Directory" and do you find it helpful? Is it possible for a minister to be so wrong on one issue and excellent on another?

I think it depends on where he is wrong. If he is wrong on his foundation then all that is built on it is wrong.

While what he says may sound good to what purpose does he say it? What I mean is what is he trying to accomplish by his words? Is he enticing you to look to yourself or to Christ?
