  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Battlefield 2 Snipers

I play Battlefield 2: Special Forces religiously. I love the game, I train with it at bare minimum of an hour a day.

Something always made me curious about my favorite class and I was wondering if anyone here who plays Battlefield would know.

My absolute favorite class is the sniper class. My personal record for longest range is just over 2,000 yards on a stationary target.

However something puzzled me. I was crouched on the roof of a building looking down into a square when I saw two medics run in and take cover behind a wall. I had a perfect shot with my rifle so I squeezed one off. Dead on shot, he went down. I re-loaded and took aim again, my rifle cracked...and the guy didnt die.

It was a perfect headshot on both counts and each character had full health. Now why, I wonder does this happen? I notice it other times to, a direct shot to the head kills certain people while others escape death. A rifleshot to the head is supposed to be fatal.

One thing I've seen thats frustrating is with the use of the M95. Now the M95 is a .50 caliber rifle, it can put a hole through several inches of thick armor plating. However I have shot people IN THE HEAD with the M95 and not had a kill.

So what gives? A .50 shot to the head SHOULD result in death, even if they were wearing a helmet that could absorb the shot, the concussive force of the shot would probably liquify the brain.

Were they in motion? If so, when online BF2 "guestimates" to compensate for lag. That's why sometimes you'll die even though YOU were behind the wall long before someone shoots at you. (that's just my experience in what happens to me...but also when I'M the one sniping)

BF2142 takes care of that...I actually prefer 2142 way better. They took all the best parts of the BF series and build it up...plus the maps are more fun.

you should try out the sniper rifles in that game!!! :)

I feel that BF2142 brings the series back to its roots with better map designs...but also does something new with the unlocks. The unlocks completely change how the game is played while still giving it that BF feel. :)

I know it's often compared to Tribes...but I don't see how or why it would be. Tribes was very Unreal'ish. Lots of jumping around and run 'n gun. But it's not like that in 2142...it's MUCH more strategic...especially with the unlocks later on. I'd say even more strategic than BF2 was. Because there are so many new gadgets you have to be a lot more careful...work more as a team.

That doesnt mean people WILL work as a team.

Thats one reason BF doesnt live up to its true potential is because there is almost NO team-work. People simply dont work together. When they have the opportunity to, many dont know how.

I saw it a couple times in Strike at Karkhand where people kind of accidentally worked together and they just SHREDDED the opposing team.

Sporatically yes. However in general, people dont work together as a team in BF2

you're right...not in BF2. But in 2142 it's pretty common to find a majority of players much more team oriented because of how the game and maps are designed.

As far as the M95 no BF2, I wish I knew, I've had the same problem, sometimes it drops them, sometimes it don't.

I've played more AA, and that 50 cal drops the person if you hit them in the foot, a little too far the other way, but nice if you are the one with the 50 cal.

I've only played a little BF2142 (the Demo that is), it seems cool, has more of an arcade type feel then BF2, but the Demo also seems to run a lot smoother, and not have some of the lag issues that BF2 is known for.

Yeah, the full 2142 game runs sooo much smoother. And on higher graphical settings easily.

As for arcading. Hmm..I've always found BF2 to be more arcady in comparison...the map layouts in 2142 really demand more strategy...if you just run n'gun you won't get far.
