Tough one to decide. But thanks to Breet I can vote for Dream Theater by a nose. I love Sweet Home Alabama's opening riff, but what I've heard of DT is just more than I thought I'd get from them.

I gotta vote for Dreamtheater because as much as I love Freebird, John Petrucci of DT just blows me away. I've never seen anyone play guitar like him. He owns the fretboard, completely. He may be the best guitartist I've ever seen/heard.

they have stood the test of time and there is definitely an annointing on their music and lyrics
even if it isnt a Godly annointing

Lynyrd Skynyrd by a landslide. Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, and Freebird are some of the best songs ever recorded. Althought DT may be better musicians technically, Skynyrd plays with more emotion. What has DT released that had the impact of Freebird?

Nothing. Then again, DT has a much much smaller audience.

Hmmm, does everyone agree that one should only vote if one is familiar with both bands' music? I applaud nadroj and P.O.D. Cincy for recusing themselves from the vote for this reason.

That said, I voted for DT. I'll keep my Skynyrd comments to myself.

I dont think you should vote if you haven't heard either band. But I think you can vote if you've only heard one band.

In Phish v. Iron Maiden....I think I've heard maybe 1 Iron Maiden song, but I've heard hundreds of Phish songs, I can play a bunch on my guitar, and I think they are the best band ever. So even though I'm not familiar with Iron Maiden I still voted because IMO nobody can be better than Phish.

In Dave v. POD, I voted for Dave. I'd never heard a POD song. After I voted I heard some POD songs, and like I thought, I do not think they're better than Dave. I love DMB and there are few bands I like more than them.

In Radiohead v. Greenday, I had heard all of Dookie, but I'd only seen two Radiohead videos, once each. And since it was a video I didnt pay much attention to the music. But I hate Green Day. So I voted for Radiohead. And unless Radiohead turns out to be worse than Green Day in my opinion, my vote was valid. I downloaded a few Radiohead songs, and while I did not think they were spectacular they still blew Green Day out of the water.

Long story short, if you are not familiar with either band, maybe you shouldnt vote...but if you know one band decently well enough, go for it. Its all about the fun!

Well... Ihave seen them both in concert, and DT is just better all around. MY vote goes to DT

I voted for DT. While I'm not familiar with either band, a few people I respect very much are big fans and their tastes often prove to be similar to mine. Going on their testimony, which I feel is worthy of merit, DT got my vote.

Dream Theatre all the way, by the way their audience is quite large. You just will never hear their stuff on the radio. Their albums sell good as well, just no great bruha when they are released.....
