A black-clad gunman in body armor shot 71 people at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" near Denver on Friday, killing 12 of them, in what the governor of Colorado called "the act of an apparently very deranged mind."

Many of the 59 people who were injured were critically wounded, police said.

The apartment of the suspect, identified as James Eagan Holmes, 24, had been booby-trapped with numerous bottles containing an unknown liquid, Aurora fire officials said. The bottles were connected to wires.

"It was mass chaos," witness Jennifer Seeger told TODAY. The gunman shot the ceiling and then "he threw in the gas can, and then I knew it was real."


"I told my friend, 'We've got to get out of here,' but then he shot people trying to go out the exits," Seeger said. She said the shooter made his way up the aisle, shooting as he went, saying nothing.

"I slipped on some blood and landed on a lady. I shook her and said, 'We need to go.' There was no response, so I presume she was dead," Coon said.

1. Horrific & Terrifying but I believe the Lord allowed this to happen because too many people were worshipping this movie. Yesterday I heard people stealing, fighting, & sleeping on the streets to watch this movie.


2. How can this young man had acquired a gas mask, bullet proof vest, tear gas, multiple shot guns, and explosive devices without never being in the police nor military?


3. Why did the Movie Thearte allowed children & babies into an adult movie, after midnight, of a blockbuster premier movie?


4. Why weren't the police at the theatre for crowd control before the movie started knowing how packed it was?


5. A facebook page was created that is requesting the death penalty for James Holmes. People can vote for his death.

Despite all this horror, people still refuse to turn to the Lord for guidance to quell their rage. The best solution is let him rot in a isolation for all the days of his life with only the New Testament to read.

1. This movie is no different than any other highly-expected flick.

2. One can own as many shotguns, bullet-proof vests, gas-masks as they like. Tear gas isn't illegal to own and "explosive devices" can be created in a garage with basic information..unless you want gov't regulation.

3. Free country~folks can do as they see fit unless you want more gov't regulation.

4. Have to ask the theater and the cops~~maybe they were well-behaved folks.

5. That's for a jury to decide.


One of the reasons I'm a licensed to carry person~~should have been some in that theater...

This tragedy isn't anyone's fault but the gunman's. Just as Kleibold and Harris were responsible for Columbine, Seung Hui Ch was responsible for the 2007 Va. Tech shooting, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were responsible for the DC sniper attacks and Matthew Murray was responsible for the seminary slayings in Aurora five years ago before security guard Jeanie Assam shot him before he could spread his carnage at New Life Church in Colorado Springs. If blame is to be placed, it belongs solely to Holmes and his refusal to seek mental health care for what was obviously a disturbed mind.

The man had a wicked heart & watching Batman did not drive him to hatred & murder.... but it gave him the inspiration and stratagem of how to kill in mass quantity without hindrance.

I spent too much time reading science books instead of hearing the Lord's words. The media almost seems to praise this man on his intellect yet he wasn't smart to understand Matthew Chapter 5.

Micayla Medek, 23 - Killed in the theatre

Medek was among the dead, her father's cousin, Anita Busch, told The Associated Press.

Busch said the news, while heartbreaking, was a relief for the family after an agonizing day of waiting for news.

"I hope this evil act ... doesn't shake people's faith in God," she said.

2.5 hours prior to his shooting, James Holmes, took Vicodin.


[Medical use: Is used to manage pain. It is most commonly prescribed for relief of moderate to moderately severe pain of acute, chronic, or post-operative types.]




He also smoked weed but it is unknown if he smoked recently before his terrorist act.

TMZ TMZ has obtained two photos of James Holmes from his time as a camp counselor at Camp Max Straus, which is run by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles.

A counselor who worked with James the summer of 2008 tells TMZ ... he seemed like everyone else and hung out with the other counselors. He described James by saying you "wouldn't be able to tell he was a killer," adding, "He was cool. I never would have thought he could kill anybody. He never was anything but nice."

If he was so positively active in a Christian Church & a family Jewish Organization why did he kill innocent people? I totally disagree that he did not display any warning signs.

First of all it is impossible to predict who will commit acts of violence. There are too many variables. Predictors are wrong 2 out of 3 times. Warning signs may never exist before one acts violently. However, there are groups of disorders that are at higher risk for committing violence. Severe depression, paranoid Schizophrenia, personality disorders, psychopaths, intermittent explosive disorders and Munchausen are a few.

Secondly, there are medical conditions that may lead even Christians to mental health issues that cause one not to be in control of their behavior, not realizing what they are doing, and they could kill. Hungtington's Correa and brain injuries are two such examples.

James Holmes, the man who allegedly killed 12 people and wounded 58 at a packed screening of the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," applied to join a Colorado gun range last month, but was rejected by the owner, who found him "creepy."

Glenn Rotkovich, who owns the Lead Valley Range in Byers, Colo., told ABC News that Holmes applied for membership about a month ago via email, but when Rotkovich called him to follow up, he said he got a "bizarre," Batman-inspired voicemail message.

He told his staff not to allow Holmes into the club if he showed up for an orientation.

In the video, he is standing among his peers at a science camp held at Miramar College in San Diego talking about "temporal illusions."
"Over the course of the summer I've been working with a temporal illusion. It's an illusion that allows you to change the past," Holmes said in the video.

On Saturday, officials said they have "evidence of calculation and deliberation" in the way Holmes allegedly planned and prepared for the shooting, beginning to buy weapons and ammunition two months ago. Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates announced Friday that Holmes had purchased four guns at local shops and more than 6,000 rounds of ammunition on the Internet in the past 60 days.

Tears flowed freely among the hundreds of mourners who packed a grassy area for the ceremony, but overall the crowd seemed surprisingly upbeat. Many in attendance held flags, flowers, signs and balloons.




Among the messages on the signs: “Like the dark knight, we will rise again. We are all Colorado," and "Be praying for families! Colorado is family!" A large banner at the rear read, "Angels walk with those who grieve."



At the conclusion of the vigil outside Aurora City Hall, members of the crowd held aloft lit candles and sang "Amazing Grace."


“I just remember going up and driving by the theater” late Friday, Pastor Jeff Noble told his New Life Community Church congregation. “I just started bawling like a baby because I think it was then that it hit me. This wasn’t some TV show. This wasn’t some event that happened 1,000 miles away … it happened in our community.”


A man who had posted crosses for the victims of Columbine High School came to the memorial site on Sunday and placed 12 white crosses for those slain in the theater. Columbine High School, where 13 students were killed in a shooting spree in 1999, is about half an hour from Aurora.

If a gun range club refuses possible membership because that person is too “creepy”, than yes, they should had reported that “creepiness” to the authorities. Has that not been the govt creed, since 911, “If you see something suspicious, report it.”?

“6,000 rounds of ammunition on the Internet in the past 60 days.” Someone should have reported him. What single individual needs that amount of automatic ammo for hunting animals?

I do not need a PhD psychology or have a mental illness to determine if a person is wicked or planning something wicked. Also does the term mental illness even apply in the bible? God labels man as being evil, good, & lukewarm/spotted. Psychology & the Bible do not mix well.

People that say, “They were no signs.”, had poor communication with that troubled person, outright lying, they're wicked themselves, living in denial, or they unaware due to their [overwhelming] issues.

I have people in my family say they never envisioned their children committin evil acts yet I remember many “evil things” they were saying & doing when they were children & all their parents said, “Oh, they’re just being kids. It's nothing big”.

There are always signs whether a person sees it or not.

At least 3 men accused of making threats during or after watching the new Batman movie have been arrested in separate incidents, underscoring moviegoers' anxieties and heightened security in the wake of a deadly mass shooting at a Colorado theater showing the film.

A Maine man was arrested when he told authorities that he was on his way to shoot a former employer a day after watching "The Dark Knight Rises," Maine state police said Monday.

Yup. There was another shooting back in April in the same city, and it was in a church. A congregant took down the shooter before he could continue the rampage. Had he not, who knows how many more would have been killed.
