• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi there,
I had a consultation with a bariatric surgeon last week, and now I am in the process of compiling all of the medical and psychological information the hospital requires before saying I am a candidate for the surgery.

I am feeling like a failure because I really had hoped to get successful in beating the overeating disorder without surgery, but I just keep gaining weight.

My therapist told me that I have only been successful in beating the eating disorder when I had a lot of support, which has never been long term. That is why I am feeling like I must do the surgical intervention route. With a small stomach, I will not be able to overeat as much. Plus, the hospital gives a lot of support afterward.

I would appreciate all of your prayers as this moves forward.

Hugs,
Trish

Madison:

No such thing as failure silly. We all need help in some area of our life. You are just relying on a form of assistance to help you lose weight. I admire your strength and courage in your decision to move forward with this surgery. You are stronger than you think. We will be with you all the way, though we can't be with you physically. Wish I could be there in person to give that support. :sigh: I will be thinking of you, definitely praying for you, and I will surely be there in spirit. Cheering you on Madison as you continue on your journey for good health and happiness. I do admire your courage and your fighting spirit.

God is with you,
lol Kim

Madison, There's know such thing as failing. What works for one will not always work for another. We all have different bodys, shapes, and metabolisms, etc. You are doing what might be that one step to get you on to a better life style. One that is healthier. One that you have prayed for and dreamed of. This is your step and why not take it. We will all pray for you and keep you in our thoughts. Just put it in the Lords hands and you will be taken care of.

Another Update

My insurance has approved the surgery. I am awaiting my psychiatric evaluation from my psychiatrist and I need two sleep studies done. They will be done in the next two weeks. Then, I must see if the surgeon approves everything.

I went to a support group at the hospital on Tuesday. There were patients who had the surgery already and people like me, waiting to get it done. It was so helpful.

Please pray for the psych eval to be okay to clear me for the surgery.

Hugs,
Trish

Hey Trish, I had bariatric surgery way back in 2000. I lost 115 lbs but gained some back but I am still down 55 lbs. Don't feel guilty about having the surgery. It is such a personal thing that no one should try to make you feel differently. It really changed the quality of my life. I wasn't a Christian when I had the surgery but God was still watching ove me and He will do the exact same for you. Just follow Dr's orders exactly. Blessings to you!
