Manning's a very questionable teacher.

:)

I researched him a couple of years ago... I'll try to find the specifics.
You're not kidding. I'm not recommending all of his books, just this one, because it reminds Chrisitans that we are to be loving to each other, not condemning like we often are. It brought me to tears when thinking about how loving God is, how loving we are supposed to be, and how often I don't care about showing the love that is due to each of you, my brethren in Christ.

However, I wouldn't recommend MANY of his other books.

If you are getting rid of some books, can I have them? I send them to poor rural communities around the world that don't have access to Christian books.
Which reminds me I have to ask the pastor about those books for you. Thanks for the reminder. Do you want Hymn books? We got hymn books from the Methodist church, and Baptist church, that are just sitting there. I have to ask about the Scofield for BT as well. Old age is creeping up on me ;)

Anyway if it hasn't been mentioned "Our Legacy" by Hannah, and "Inside Out" by Larry Crabb are great books.

Most of my clients are not American protestants, so they tend to not want our hymnals, but if they don't have anywhere else to go, I can warehouse them until a church that wants them comes along.

As far as fiction goes, I would recommend Leota's Garden, by Francine Rivers, which is about the most Godly and realistic fiction I have ever read. Also, the Shepherd's Path series is an outstandingly good End Times set. The Christians actually ACT like Christians, if you can beleive it! :)

It's not a matter of theology, they are orthodox Christians just like us, but their music is different. Most of my clients are African, Asian or Native American, and they have their own style of music and their own languages when they sing.

One church in Africa sent me a tape of a service, and they did their teaching and preaching in English, but their singing in their native language. It was neat. And Native Americans also do their services in English, except for the singing, which they do in their own tongue.

My bad. I am so American, it never occured to me that they would have their own songs. Duh...LOL
