Baptism?

I am concerned that I am not baptized. So what do you recommend for me. I do not belong to a church.

You may find this to be comical... but I baptized myself. I filled the tub with water, lit candles, played soft music, and accepted Christ as my Saviour.

Now after you get off the floor from laughing

Tell me what I should do.

Did you include a rubber ducky in the tub? That is the only way to truly baptize yourself!

But seriously, the Church has a thing called "Baptism of Desire" which means that you want to be baptised, and if you were to die before real baptism, then you would be ok.

If you do convert, you must go through classes like I am going through. If you are not baptised, then they do that when you get confirmed. Also, they do an exorcism if anyone has done any false worship, but that doesnt apply to you.

Personally, I didn't find it funny at all.  Or comical.  Or whatever.    I've never heard of anyone doing that but I think it shows great dedication to Christ if you went to all the trouble to do that yourself.

I'm not sure how any church (Catholic or otherwise) would view that.  I'm sure you'd have to actually be baptized by a Priest again.  But what you did says to me you're serious and just couldn't wait to call yourself a Child of God!

Stormy, I think you've made an excellent case for "Baptism by Desire."

Don't stress yourself, Hon. The Holy Spirit is working in your life, and you have a certain path to travel upon. Basically, you're safe. Keep studying, and when the time is right, visit your nearest Catholic Church and talk to the priest there. Tell him, "I want to come home."

Actually the Baptismal rite includes an exorcism in all baptisms, even in infant baptism.

All an exorcism is a prayer that is said to release the candidate from the power of being a seed of Satan. (I sure hope got this right with all the other trouble I have been having)

RCIA...You can't convert with out it. They are convert classes call your local parish for details.

No, our priest didnt do it for my group of converts, and some of them were not Christians before. It refers to someone that worships false Gods in the past.

Protestants do not need to have an exorcism.

Yes, Stormy, I think that was beautiful but also incomplete.

I just wanted to give you two website addresses with a myriad of information. The first one was like a catalyst to my fuller understanding of my faith in their documents, one called "To tell you the Whole Truth about the Church and the Bible," and the other one is called "Point Papers." Excellent stuff! The other one is different Apologists with a ton of links to essays and such. It's Good Stuff, too!! And then some transcripts from Scott Hahn! He tends to find deeper Scriptural portraits for the Catholic teaching.

Do not worry about that you haven't been baptized. I truly began walking in the LORD 2 years ago, and I got baptized only this month. Baptism is a Public sign that you have accepted Jesus Christ. I had a very similar predictiment that you may be having. You want to be baptized right, but you don't think you can because you don't belong to a church. Anyone can baptize you by Immersion. Do you know someone who has a pool? Do you live near a beach? Schedule a time when you are going to be baptized. Invite anyone you can. I was going to do something like that but the LORD gave me an oppertunity to be baptized without joining a church. I would encourage you to do it, but do not fret. Yoy have called on the name of the LORD, and "Whosoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved" Yes there are many examples in the Bible where one believes and is baptized, but no where does it say that Baptism is a necessary thing for salvation

Stormy has been inquiring about CATHOLIC CHURCH teachings. And Baptism is a Sacrament of the Catholic Church and considered something extremely important.

You could probably almost walk into a Lutheran (ELCA) Church and request it. It could happen within a matter of days. (you need proof of your identity)

Phoebe: Please don't be hurt. I appreciate that you came to my help. That was very nice of you. I have no problems with any of the Christian Churches. The only reason why I would not think it right to get baptized there is because at this point in my walk, I have a strong desire to become Catholic. To tell the truth I was wondering if that might not have been the right thing for me to do. I thought maybe I should go to a non-denominational church to be baptized so that I would not have to wait.

But my friends here have said that Jesus knows my desire and that it alone will suffice until my real baptism.

I hope you will be back. All posters are welcome on this forum. We are all Christians. I do not reject any of my brothers and sisters. It is time that we mend.

When someone cannot feel free to come here and state something that falls within those parameters, then it is a sad day, indeed. Thank you for you contribution.

And Stormy, I thought your desire to follow Christ was beautiful, and it didn't make me want to laugh at all. It made me want to give you a hug, instead.
