how do you know what a balanced view of prepping? There is a pastor kind of guy who leads prep classes and I'm sure a lot of people who come are really gung ho; trusting in their ability. How does that balance with a Christian's view on these things esp if we are wof?

Been prepping for 3 years.... spend as little as 10 bucks a week. Never more than 100. Average about 15 maybe 20 a week.
About the same cost as an enjoyable hobby. We don't like to take vacation trips or cruses, nor do we live extravagantly. So we enjoy the prepping. We do it for our kids, grandkids, and friends. They will need it. We will provide what we can. Just as any family does.

this is a hobby for you then? What do you spend money on if you only do $15 a week?
This week we bought cucumbers and dehydrated them.
Last week we had to replace the dehydrator because the old one gave out. Good news is we have double the trays now.
A few months ago we splurged and bought $100 of dent corn and packed it away.
We always get something every week. A few weeks ago we bought 8 pounds of corn for $8 and dehydrated that.
Beans are big. For about 3 months we just bought beans and bagged them. They have jumped in price, almost doubling because WIC now pays for them.
At one point rice was only $17 for 50 pounds... that has jumped to about $25.
If you average about 15 or 20 a week you will build up a pretty good storehouse in a year.

Some of the "big" non-food expenses are:
food saver - we got one for about $70
dehydrator - about $70
mylar bags = $94 for 250

Of course some folks spend in the tens of thousand for bunkers, elaborate water schemes, bug out vehicles.
We try to keep it reasonable. We do what we can. Like I said, a hobby level spending. We have been doing it going on 4 years, so I suspect we have half a ton of food. Rice, beans, potatoes, sugar, grain, odds and ends.
Water is a our next big issue. We have some in 2 liter bottles... but we are going to have to go larger scale. We are thinking about a pool system. Each pool can hold 1600 gallons. Just need to recycle it an keep it clean and oxygenated.

that's kind of crazy, where do you put everything and when do you know when to stop?
LOL... We hear that occasionally. We will be crazy until 3 months after the stuff hits the fan and the ones calling us crazy now will decide we were not crazy ones after all and come to our door for a meal.
Besides, for 5800 years people did this all the time. It was called life and they lived it.
If you did not prep, you would starve the next winter.
:help:

Where do we put our preps?
Most food preps keep longer if they are held at 70 degrees or less. In SC where we live, this means an air conditioned room 6 to 8 months out of the year. "Experts" state that you will lose 1 year for every degree over 70 degrees. If you hold it at about 70 degrees year round, it will last 20 years. If you build up a stock over a period of 3 years then you can begin to live off the older preps and replenish as you go. You will always have at least 3 years in storage that will be good for 20 years. Rotate the stock. We have a small super efficient 5000 BTU air conditioner that keeps this room at 70-73 degrees year round.
We have a small bedroom that is designated for preps that require cool. Not all do. Sugar and salt do not require cool. They do need to be kept dry.
I am designing my office to exist in the prep room so that we can use that coolness for me too! So this one small bedroom does double duty for preps and my office. Some folks lay out a 5 by 6 quad of buckets and place their bed on top of the buckets. That is 30 buckets which are virtually invisible and space saving. We have one wall of our bedroom covered with stacks of buckets. About 20 buckets. If a person wants to prep, they can find a place to put the stuff. Ask yourself if you were starving right now and someone came and offered to give you a years worth of preps, would you find a place? Would you say..."Ya, I really need that food but I have no room for it.."
I think you would find space.

Hi janny... There is no problem making preparations for the future due to the weird weather patterns and other calamities that we are witnessing to around our nation and the world today. The Earth is reeling back and forth groaning because of sin corruption that is leading to "birth pangs" of things to come (prior) to the seven year tribulation period.

My response here, is about Christians teaching on "prepping" FOR the 7 year Great Tribulation Period. Their teaching is based on... they do NOT believe that God will return for us (the church) in the "catching" away (rapture) before the tribulation period starts. However, many of us DO believe in a pre-trib or mid-trib rapture of the Church of Jesus Christ as (the blessed hope). So whether one believes in the rapture or not... we have another one of these... 3061_zpscea8d03d[1].gif that remains in God's hands. It's another one of those "best of the best" of today's Bible scholars scratching their heads. The rapture, I suppose can be proven. It's the timing that befuddles all of the scholars.

(IMO)... The balance view of prepping for the "seven year tribulation period" could/may be "equilibrium"... or, the opposing view... that is to believe in the rapture of the Church which (btw) is not a WoF issue. This Blessed Hope is for "whosoever" in the Body of Christ.

Please understand that this is not an attack on anyone who has very strong views on "prepping" whether... to start now, or prepare for what they believe for what's ahead including the great tribulation period. I Love my brother and we agree to disagree on this very hot subject for sure.Hot[1].gif Did's is my friend and I appreciate his past input that helped implement the Word of Faith forum. I am very sure that he feels the same way.
I almost forgot this for those who BELIEVE... Rapture%20Smiley[1].gif (couldn't resist). My concern is... we must BELIEVE and receive by grace through faith to be healed, delivered and prosperous, not to mention ALL the promises of God. Right? So... What if there IS a rapture after all, then... What about those who don't BELIEVE? Fly Rapture.gif

The bottom line is this....

Matthew 9:29b (NET)
"Let it be done for you according to your faith."

Thanks Hodg...
We are not prepping for the great tribulation. We prep mainly for unforeseen calamities and more specifically the judgement of the USA due to sin and the abominations that are being legislated into US law.
Peace.
Dids.

Hey Dids... Just my thoughts... As long as we are in the age of Grace, neither the USA, nor the world is currently being judged for sin. All sins were already judged by the finished work of Christ on the cross for saints and sinners alike. The Father accepted the "once" and for ALL... the blood sacrifice of His Son as total payment for the sins of the whole world... "for those who receive." Busy.gif

Hey peeps. Long time no see.

I'm all for prepping. It's just intelligent to do. Look at the aftermath of Katrina, Sandy, and numerous other disasters. We are taught to save finances, why not other needs as well?

I get there's a balance. Joseph prepped during seven years of abundance for seven years of famine. Anything over seven years is a bit much. LOL. But having a basic knowledge of gardening, canning, basic survival skills are all good things to know.

I don't tell folks I prep. That's like advertising for evil to come to your house when the famine hits. People get crazy during bad times. I don't need the extra idiots to deal with. Prepping is much more than hoarding food. How about basic things like paying off your debt? Always having $50-$100 bucks cash on hand. Knowing basic first aid? Buying books and candles for when you don't have utilities? How about having water to drink and clean yourself with? Do you know how to dig a well if needed?

If you turned off your utilities, took away fuel for your cars, cut your cell phones, would you make it a day? A week? These are all good questions to ask yourself. If you don't like your prospects of survival, then change them while you can.

Over the last 2000 years untold thousands of Christians have died simply because they did not take common sense steps to prepare for uncertain times. God does not want us to die. It is His will that we live and not die and tell of the wonderful works of God.
I am constantly amazed that people who have history books still maintain that God will not allow believers to starve, be killed in political disturbances and natural catastrophes. It is just foolishness to see a dam is about to break, and yet sit in your home with your family and think God is going to divert the water around your house. The obvious and normal and wise to thing to do is head for high ground. It is not a denial of faith to do so.
